They’re almost equal. C is a hair better .cd, but a hair larger frontal area.

I've often thought about swapping a Prius C drivetrain into a G1 Insight body..

That would be interesting to see. On a sidenote, considering the early Prius the same 1NZ-FXE engine of the Prius c had been used quite detuned to the point it even had a lower power rating than the Insight while the torque was not much greater at all, seems like it won't put much stress to the Insight body.

People put in 250hp engines in the Insigt and do fine. Main issue would be fitting everything into the Insight's body, as even the guts of a Prius C are sizeable compared to the Insight.

But if it actually fits, it might be good to try.

I suspect that the average, everyday MPG would increase with a Prius C drivetrain since it has infinite gearing and the ability to run on EV mode on light loads - and with the Insight's light and aero shell it would return far better fuel economy than stock and spend a lot more time in EV mode.

But that was a full-EV conversion. Well, it does seem quite reasonable to use the motor-generator units of a Prius as an off-the-shelf approach for some EV conversions anyway.

I'd enjoy a (Toyota Hybrid) Prime drivetrain in an Insight. The Rav4 Prime's would likely give supercar acceleration, and likely near 100 miles on battery before the engine needs to kick in.

But as mpg_numbers_guy says, fitting things in would be tough. The Insight's isn't exactly a tiny engine bay, but packaging is really tight in Toyota's hybrids.
