Audi A2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
The A2 has a coefficient of drag of between 0.25 and 0.29, depending on the specific version.

When I look at the rear wheel well haunch/curve/hip the tail extension leaves me hopeful that in plan the sides will blend nicely/smoothly in an aerodynamic way.

However, the front wheel well budges (at sides not top) do not leave me as hopeful as they return to the body too abruptly in my opinion.

To be fair, most of this drag will be below the centerline of the wheels, so a top 3/4 view will not reveal it.

I must admit I didn't pay much attention to the side of the car when I first saw it, it was the shape over the top and the rear hatch that caught my attention.

here's some better shots of the side and rear

These latest photos seem to indicate a return angle closer to 30 degrees, not 20 degrees. If my memory serves, anything greater than 20 degrees will not attach air above 20-30 mph.

There are however, very flattering styling lines/forms.

EDIT 12/02/13

Just found these photos by daepp on-line

The extra lumps and bumps, coupled with the Coke bottle wasp waist, probably detract from aerodynamic efficiency, needlessly reducing the cabin volume and side-impact crush zone into the bargain. The contours cause more movement of air than needed, so probably add drag.

This car appears to be more a styling exercise than good aerodynamic design. Its phallic shape would probably appeal to those more endowed with money than size, in a compensatory sorta way.
