-According to the New York Times obituary of Ferdinand Porsche's son, Ferry (d. 1998), Hitler and Porsche met in 1925, and Porsche was asked by Hitler to design a "people's car" in 1934. According to this 2015 Jalopnik article, the design was not finalized until 1938. This Deutsche Welle article says that Hitler approved the first prototype on Dec. 29, 1935.
-In the same obituary, the younger Porsche is quoted as having written in his autobiography that his father was one of "a half- dozen men in all of Germany who dared to speak their minds openly before Hitler."
-"Führer" means leader, not father, and was an honorific used by the heads of German political parties in the 1920s, when Hitler first took it to himself. Over the next 20 years, of course, it was not only incorporated into the Nazi party slogan ("Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer"), but came to be used exclusively by Hitler as he consolidated power.

Hitler had artistic ability, IIRC he was especially good at architectural stuff.

Vman45— That's a good summation. The red Type 60 looks cartoonish, does it not? I'll reiterate the Porsche vs Ledwinka vs Ganz.pdf link. I liked it but I kinda buried it.

An interesting side note is in .../forum/member-freebeard-albums-voiture+minimum.html

Le Corbusier was a French architect. That's a modern 3D model of his entry in the upper right. It shows why he lost, the spare tire meant three passengers in a four passenger car competition. Geez, read the design brief!

I didn't adequately document this (scan from an interlibrary loan book) but I believe this was Corbu's big sedan.

I've always heard that he was a painter before he went into politics, and it sticks in my mind that he might have studied art somewhere in Austria.

ETA: Apparently he was rejected twice by the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, in 1907 and again in 1908, and had a career painting postcards.

A painter, agreed. The architect was Albert Speer.

Labatt's beer trucks used a similar torpedo body trailer, but didn't have those trick skirts on the tractor.

Hitler did his best as arts connoisseur, but his eye & ear were each “off”.

Have a look at the plans (scale models) for Germania the future Planetary Capitol he ostensibly approved.

May be that these were executed underground in Antarctica and orbiting Betelgeuse to a more sensible scale.
