Just put a chin spoiler on it, and maybe a rear spoiler.

Personal Best! 29.5MPG's

So a buddy of mine is getting married tomorrow and I just got back yesterday from his bachelor party in Minneapolis MN. 433.3 miles on 14.688 Gallons for a total of 29.50 MPG's A new personal best. I could have done better but I drove a little fast on the way up 55-62MPH. On the way back I wasn't in a hurry so I did 49mph and was pushing past 30MPG's. Before I left I did a few quick mods to improve things a bit more.

1. Sealed the gap between the tank and the bumper. Happened to have a board to would span the inner gap behind the bumper. I plan to add additional smaller plates on either side to finishing it off.

2. Finished the other tire deflector. Decided I liked to way the first one was set up so I hacked out a second one and painted them before I left. Time well spent.

That is ridiculously impressive. I'm lucky to get 19mpg. My tank averages are around 15-16.

Winter is on it's way with current low's hitting the 20's. So I decided it was time to retire the old plexi grill blocks and replace them with something that will hold up a little better. I happened to have a sheet of ABS plastic handy so I went to town. Because there is a gap below the grill of about 1/2" and around both headlights I decided I would give a full block a try and will see what temp do. An interesting fact for those looking to make your own, they may look exactly the same size, but in fact they are just slightly different in each slot.

4.0L Jeep engines run hot, blocking the grill may not be the best thing to do unless all you do is highway driving and even then it might not be too good an idea. A more permanent but probably more effective way to reduce pressure build up under the hood would be to add air extractors to the hood itself. The added bonus of is that you also reduce front end lift at high speeds keeping the vehicle more stable.

You know, I hear this a lot and I'm not sure I truly believe it. I believe if you go back a ways in this thread we did cover it once upon a time as well.

"4.0L Jeep engines run hot"
That is true. When she's warm she runs a rock solid 209F and she loves it. When it's -10F guess what? Without a block she typically doesn't see 209F before I arrive at my destination of less than 5miles(across town). Highway is actually the only time I found my blocks to be too much. In town driving never exceeds 5miles. I also vary the number of blocks depending on the outside temp.

"add air extractors to the hood itself."
I have seen these, but I'm not sure for starters I could take a saw to my hood, just not my thing. The other reason for the grill blocks is for increased warm-up and to help store the heat between trips. Cut a few holes in the top of the hood and say bye bye to the $$$.

"The added bonus of is that you also reduce front end lift at high speeds keeping the vehicle more stable."
Well, considering I don't pass 60mph I'm not too worried about aero lift.

There are reasons for my madness, one of them is 29.5MPG's highway.

Very impressed with your work on your Jeep Cherokee. I have a 01 Cherokee but has the lift, bigger tires, regeared, heavy front/rear bumper, rock rails, and gas tank skid with hitch. haha It's a fat ol' pig. I'm claiming around 16-17mpg so can't complain but huge room for improvement. :-) Thanks for all the great ideas.

Cheers

On another note if you got 4wd something I noticed that helped a lot was removing the front driveshaft and it's pretty noticeable the difference in rotating mass.
