If you boat-tail the Forrester, you could do an articulated diffuser as GM did with the Epcot concept car.
For around town, when speeds were low and driveway ramps 'n such might rip at it, it could have the upward slope for protection. Then for the open road, goin' to Grandma's,you lower that puppy down parallel to the road for the drag reduction.
A simple hinge/cable/pulley/hand-brake lever would get you in the game.

In the long run, we're all doomed. Sorry.

How about instead of re-angling the difusser, you lift the whole back of the car with

aerodynamic properties of the genus Procyon?

One of several downsides to not using a vehicle regularly:

- I'm pretty sure a raccoon has taken up residence inside the U.F.O's tail.

I was wearing shorts & flip flops when I spotted the evidence this morning - not ideal clothing for startling/evicting a clever animal with pointy claws & teeth. I will return wearing long pants & shoes to investigate further...

Stay tuned!

(Will also try to get photos.)

I just hope I didn't build a raccoon nursery!

The Insight is parked inside the garage. But... I noticed the garage had been broken into (section of siding pulled away), and the paw prints on the cars inside pointed at a raccoon being the offender. I figured it/they was/were setting up camp somewhere in my pile of junk at the back, and was planning to move the cars out to investigate/clean up.

Then I noticed an obvious bulge in the bottom of the tail and the leading edge of the bottom separated from the bottom edge of the bumper. And some leaves/shavings on the floor in that area.

Will know more when I go back to investigate in a few hours!

Sounds like a good time to drive off. The racoon will likely leave while you are driving.

Could you pipe exhaust into the tail without it entering the cabin?

I understand that feral animals are almost docile when vital functions cease.

A Daniel Boone car. Ive evicted racoons from my attic, use a long stick and poke at it, let it run off.
