Too verbose? This is the part I was lookiing for:
Quote:
Andy Granatelli took a little known product called STP to the Indianapolis 500 and sponsored a racecar called the NOVI. His promotional savvy turned the STP logo decal into a cultural icon and the additive category took off.

Say what now? Pseudo jargon mumbo jumbo.
This is just poor writing for 'immiscible'.

Not sure why you dragged your neighbor into it.

What role did Andy Granatelli play in Motorkote? None as far as I'm aware - he was just an inspiration for his ability to market oil. But they throw his name out there to cash in on the halo effect.

Agreed, but it has nothing to do with oil. They're just throwing around a bunch of technical jargon to try to impress/confuse people.

Adding dihydrogen monoxide to my cooling system really helped keep my engine happy! Of course it was half-empty before hand, and dihydrogen monoxide is just plain water, but it is much easier to sell if it sounds complicated.

Just illustrating the logical fallacies in these scammy products. Have you ever had a problem with clean oil clogging an oil filter? Of course not. But Motorkote doesn't clog filters! It doesn't contain agent orange. It doesn't cheat on its taxes. Surely if it doesn't do some bad things, it must be good!

So does it measurably improve performance? *crickets*

This is all marketing misdirection - they don't want you to linger on the glaringly obvious lack of any real benefit so they distract with nonsense. And it works.

For what it is worth, I've fallen victim to this snake oil marketing before (in my case it was Slick50). Lighten your wallet and improve acceleration...

I think I sprung for low-friction transaxle lube once, but it became a sunk cost with any benefit unknown.

The point was he played against them. I'd heard of STP.

We used STP and a 90% oil mixture for all the bearings in the satellites at huge aircrash. The enginers said it made a big difference in space for friction and oil movement. Couldn't document the difference in my car on earth.

Bingo. We spend millions testing fluids in engines to maximize fuel economy while maintaining reliability and engine life. Just swapping to a new engine oil is more than a year of testing.

'engine friction'

If you look into tribology, the science of lubrication, you find:
1) Engines rely on hydrodynamic lubrication.
2) Sliding and rolling surfaces are all separated by a film of oil.
3) The 'friction' is caused by hydrodynamic viscous shearing of the oil.
4) It's a 'viscosity' issue, just like aerodynamic surface friction drag. True for all non-ideal' fluids.
5) You could 'Teflon'-coat , or coat with anything else, till the cow's came home, and it wouldn't change a thing. Your solving a problem that doesn't exist.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6) The only thing which is 'known' to reduce engine 'friction' is 100% synthetic engine oil, of proper viscosity. Synthetic oil is actually of lower viscosity than it's API label rating, however, it's against the law for it to be advertised as such, do to a quirk in the law. It has a lower temperature pour-point, requires less cranking power. It is virtually ash-free. At extremely high temperature it still maintains a film strength associated with it's rated 'weight' because of extremely robust long-chain designer molecules.

So then is STP itself any good? Doesn't matter? OK Motorkote, thanks for the warning against hype in the engine additive market.

Fwiw: we used STP in oil for bearings on Hughes satellites because the engineering responsible determined it had a benefit in space after massive testing in house. I never saw any beneffits in my engines so I stopped using it. My engines typically exceed TBO recommendations

Turtle Motorkote??

I saw the PF farm video about a year ago and with his results I figured it was at the worst not snake oil and at the best will cut down on engine wear in my older cars.

I added MK to my '89 Geo Metro both in transaxle and crankcase. 6000 miles later I cannot testify that it improved mileage since I have made other changes to the car along the way, but my average mpg has increased and my trans noises in reverse have subsided

Is this because of MK? IDK, but since I substituted the recommended 5w30 for a thinner 5w20, I worry less about frictional damage under hotter temps and heavier loads.

Next oil change I might even go to 0W20

I’ve mixed motorkote with Lucas oil additive and amsoil 0w20 with little wear on the engine so far, and that was 4 years ago!

Nothing really for mileage, wasn’t keeping proper track.
