Too bad the Miata didn't come with a hybrid type top. I think this TR7 was called a "Sprinter"?

I love those big fabric roofs - especially on old French 4-door cars!

Better than a fixed roof... but for me, even that wouldn't do compared to the open-top experience of a convertible.

I've wondered if the new Miata "targa" style would even be as enjoyable...

That's sweet. How much weight does it add?

It's surprisingly only ~120 LBS heavier than the soft top Miata, according to:

I read through both of your threads about this car. I did see your post in another thread about:

Racing products design company Hancha did a CFD analysis on 5 different air dam/splitter combinations on a 1st gen Miata.

Did you build or buy your front air dam? Who made it if you bought it?

I am wondering what your Miata MPG is driving it around 65MPH?

It's just Coroplast (corrugated plastic)... home made construction. You can get it at places like Home Depot or sign shops.

Same construction technique as the one I just stuck on my 2000 Metro: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...tml#post554848

No idea! I didn't get around to doing a speed vs. MPG graph for the car this summer. If I had to guess, I'd say around 35 mpg @ 65 mph with the mods that are currently on the car.

I get 28mpg at 75 with the cruise control set and the A/C on if that helps anyone. Though mine is a 1.8l with a 4.1 diff instead of the 4.3 and a 1.6. I also have grippy tires that are much, much larger than stock tires, 205-50R15 Instead of 185-60R14. I cruise 3,647 at 75.

Cool man, thanks for that great info. I was driving my Lexus LS400 tonight and the car runs at 2200 RPM's at 65 MPH. It actually runs slightly over 2600 RPM's at 80 MPH. I am going to see what MPG this car gets running it at 65 MPH for a week straight with the cruise control on and drive like I normally do. Then I will try a week of hypermiling at 65 MPH to see what improvements can be made. I will report this back in a new Lexus LS400 post.

You might inspire me to coroplast this Lexus!

Yes, that helps since I always considered buying a Miata to daily drive.
