Hi all, just signed up over here because I had some questions, and would like to help with any info if I can too.

The main Wiki page says "see this thread for updates," but the first post in the thread says "no longer updated, see wiki for current info." That may be a little off-putting to new folks.

My Arduino board is on its way, thanks so much for making this project!

Sure enough! The wiki refers to the Release 1 post as the latest info and the Release 1 post refers to the Wiki for the latest. Confusing!

Someone should fix this.

this is the cord: VSS, Injector,12V+,12V-

I'ts easy to fix by swapping wires but the instructions should be right.

I'll test the cord later to see if it's crossing over. I did come with my mac for using the fax function although I've never heard of one.
It IS a cross-cable. When it was made, one plug on one end was clip-up, and the other is clip-down.

Moreso seen on phone than on PC network cables. If you were to loot at the ends of your wire, with no twists in the wire, your ends might line up like this:

__---__ (text spacer) _______
|........| (text spacer) |........|
|........| (text spacer) |........|
-------- (text spacer) ---__---

Whereas other cables are:

__---__ (text spacer) __---__
|........| (text spacer) |........|
|........| (text spacer) |........|
-------- (text spacer) --------

Trust me, I've done this enough times making patch cables. If you accidentally flip the wire or the end to be crimped on over in your hands, Pin 1 becomes Pin 4....

Cross over. That's what I thought. I guess there should be a warning in the instructions that this may be possible

Ugh...I despise and revel in not having a job all at the same time, anyways:

I'm a weiro/geek/person/thingy and use a Mac...how much of a pain would it be to use my Mac for setting a MPGuino up? Yes I do have access to a windows machine, but its a big heavy desktop running 2000 on a Pentium 2 and is slower than dirt, pretty much useless.

Oh the wonders of not following the crowd

I would visit http://arduino.cc for platform specifics, though I'm sure someone here has it working on a mac too.

It should be just as easy as setting it up on a PC. The Arduino program is available for OSX, and the screenshot on the download page looks exactly like the Windows program, so it shouldn't be any different. Just make sure you get Arduino 11 (scroll down on the download page), not the newest version.

The Arduino IDE is Java based, so it's available on all platforms, and is basically identical. What flavor of OSX are you using? I have 10.3.9 and 10.5.2 at my disposal, as well as a USB Arduino...

Should someone inform Fundamental logic? My only question is whether there is such a thing as a crossover RJ11 cord which would be the only other explanation.
Hmm.. my lcd is doing this too; I assembled correctly and my cord seems to be non-crossover though.
Time to try swapping the wires in the RJ box... wish me luck!

argh, I wired the 7805 (voltage regulator) in reverse. problem solved. Mine (the 7805 part) didn't match the one pictured in the instructions...
