If you were closer I would be glad to help.

I'm starting to realize it might be closer to the end of Summer before I get this thing back on the road again.

I have to admit this is by far the hardest thing I have ever done. Trying to make a high HP fast car that still gets decent mileage is a lot tougher then I thought it would be. Plus one of my biggest problems is making to many changes all at once. I'm fighting right now wanting to pull the engine back apart to change up the compression.

So I'm going to button up a few more engine items this weekend, then its time to get on the body and paint. This should get me a little more motivated?

Body work begins!!!
I have the passenger side door all pulled out with the first stage of body filler applied. This door should of been replaced, it took me about 3 hrs on the caved in lower dent alone.

Today I should have all the passenger side body worked done plus the hood.

The hood had three paint jobs on it. Most of it was poor chip repair from the previous owners.
This pic is the hood with all the edges taped so chemical stripper doesn't get around to the under side and make more work.

First application of stripper.

First staged scrapped all the lifted paint off and wiped dry.

Second staged of paint stripper

Second staged all scrapped and dried. Were finally there. Most of the metal is exposed.

This pic the small amount of paint that didn't come off with the stripper gets sanded with 80 grit using a 8" buffer soft Velcro pad.


The hood should be around a pound less now.

I like the scotch brite pads on an electric drill. Looks like you used one on the last step.

Some urethane primer and block her down.

Just picked up a snap on air brush today at a yard sale, never tried one.

Yep I used a 3m scotch brite scuff pad on a 6" DA sander.

Last night I sprayed one coat of PPG DP90LF epoxy primer on the hood and bare metal spots and then this morning sprayed 3 coats of some Urethane K36 Primer Surfacer over the top of all the worked areas.


Now i will let that set until next weekend and begin the primer blocking stage.

Well here it is as of now.
First coat of base coat over black sealer. The fenders are still in sealer in this pic.

Third coat of base on all the parts.

Third coat of base coat on door.

Clear coat.

Here it is as of tonight.


Hood is now on, with the rear spoiler and upper side trim installed.

As you can see the "side out race exhaust is done with the lower molding still needing cut and painted.

Its starting to take shape but it has been a very long process with a whole lot more body work then I ever would have thought.

I'm now working on gathering parts for the Hybrid system. I might have just got the the ultimate hook-up... with a system that will be donated.

For how long have you been painting cars? I have been talking about covering my Civic with Plasti-Dip since before I bought her. I do not have any idea why there are so many black cars in Arizona! My paint is terrible, too, and a fender is banged up. I could pay to repaint the car, but I understand that it would cost at least as much as I paid for the car!
