Removing the headlight makes it easier to polish and eliminates the need to tape off or possibility of damaging the surrounding area.
My thought exactly.

I am more concerned with the headlight than the paint, but I don't need to pop off the corner of the bumper to put down tape.

I am sure that my buffer would do more than those attachments if I could keep the covers on.

I'm flip-flopping. With a buffer you're supposed to tape the creases on the body so it doesn't cut through the paint.

Hey hey hey hey hey! It's my car's mirror clone! 😃

This is only a 2002, but it also only has 160,000 miles!

No it doesn't!

This isn't the first picture they want you to see, but it is the most important one:

This is the picture that VehicleHistory provided me from when it was sold in 2016 with 166,556.00 miles:

I hate what they did with it!

Here is the better side:

They lost a hubcap!

This is the picture they put first:

I still don't know why Kelley says "The average annual miles driven in the United States is about 14,263...", yet it feels that this car should have 157,785--7,889 yearly, but if this car had 166,556.00 miles when it was sold 5.3 years ago and it was driven less than 8k miles yearly since, it would have 199,600 now.

However, that <8,000 number is made up, and they say the actual number is over 14k. In that case this car should have 242,150.

However, MyCarFax guesses 290,551. It doesn't show the sale in 2016, but sales don't show up, just services, and it had 167,000 miles on 11/07/2014. I have seen mistakes before and this very well may be a rounding error, but it also shows 166,314 miles on 2/25/2014.

Maybe the car was hardly driven between 2014 and 2016.

How long does it take a dealership to turn around a car? They do some repairs, clean and advertise it.

A month?

Maybe that took an unusually long time.

Maybe that discrepancy makes sense, but MyCarFax says that the car passed emissions on 12/21/2019 with 264,693 miles.

We don't know when it got into an accident. They say "2002 Toyota Camry runs and drives great. Clean title everything works just the hit," but they clearly lied about the odometer. Would they say "I meant 260,000 miles!", which would still be inaccurate?

Would they say "Oh right! It had just over 160,000 miles when I bought the car 5 years ago!"

Forget this liar!

I think that car, on top of having vastly more miles than they claim, also sustained body damage in the accident. I guess that I am lucky that a taller vehicle tried to turn left in front of me. Their hood is only slightly damaged, but the bumper reinforcement is pushed in.

It sold!

Maybe it had even been involved on another crash before, underwent a half-assed repair just to be sold, and then another crash...

I just wouldn't buy anything now if I didn't have to. I bet even scrap yards are scavenged pretty hard these days keeping jalopies on the road.

Some improvement

My previous picture:

It looks worse! For the love of MacGyver, it looks worse! How did i swing that?!

I bought wet\dry sandpaper last night and while the back said something like 300-5,000 grit, in smaller print the front said 80-600.

I needed 600-3,000.

I redid the tape, used the 600, and went back for the package of 800-2,000 Autozone showed in their website, but I absolutely couldn't find it.

An employee found it for me. The wrong thing was in front of it and it had a different design than the picture showed.

I don't know if 2,000 grit was enough, but it hardly did anything, and I went from sanding for 30 seconds with 600 to 2 minutes with 2,000.

Everyone says to wrap the sandpaper around a sponge, but the finer the grit, the harder it was to keep it on the sponge.

Masking tape really doesn't work well around water., so it hardly did anything when I finished.

I don't know what is going on. I shined the headlight but it slowly clouded over. It was a clean washcloth.

I rinsed off each sheet after I used it, but the 600 grit blew away last night--the only sheet I need from the first package.

To recap: I ended up buying 2 packages of sandpaper, but even though it definitely did something, it actually looked worse because it clouded over, and the water quickly messed up the masking tape.

If only I had listened to freebeard and replaced my headlight with a slugbug!
