With my continued gas savings I bought this! (2001 Insight)

I swapped out from very used RE92s to new. Wow, you can feel the tread move squirm around. When you drive on rain grooves the car moves with them.
My mileage went down about 6-8mpg. Tried pumping to 60psi but no difference.

My Used Potenza weight on rim = 21.7lbs ea.
My New Potenza Weight on rim = 22.9lbs ea.

But I know it's not the weight most seams to be the new tread.

used to get 71mpg to work and up to 77mpg back. 32mi each way
With the tires 62mpg to work and 68mpg back if lucky
Now with temps in the teens I struggle to get 60mpg. Very depressing after hitting 84mpg on long trips.
Anyway be prepared for the moving around on the new tires.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I have heard that my mpg will suffer with the new ones, but the squishiness is a new one, I hadn't heard that before.

Time will how they affect the mpg and feel concerning my particular location and driving style (warm & dry/slow & steady). I'll document how they do on mine.

When I put my winter tires on, I experienced the same thing - the ride is really "squishy", even with high pressure. I'm under the impression that the mpg returns within a few thousand miles though, as the tires break in.

Quick update on the discharge/grid charge: neither car has had a recal for over a month and a half. I have used the assist more in the last six weeks than I used it the entire time I owned the car, and still no recals!

There's definitely something to be said for the discharge. Maybe in the long run it will shorten the battery life, but it is making the car way more driveable the whole time, so I feel that's a fair trade off

Still haven't had a recal, and the battery is really strong! It's way more enjoyable to drive with the IMA battery able to assist all the time, but with the cold weather I'll be lucky to break 70 mpg on this tank

Well, I was barely able to stay above 70 mpg on this tank, but I did it!

Insights are the perfect commuter car if you live in a perfectly flat, dry, calm area and have a long, steady commute on the highway (which describes my commute most days through central Florida on I-4). Add in wind, cold or rain, hills or any combination of them and Insights start to struggle.
This tank was a mix of short trips, a bunch of rain days, carpooling, and practically every day was windy, so I consider myself lucky to stay above the 70 mpg mark.

IMA battery is still doing great, wish I had attempted the discharge/grid charge process long before I did!

It would be neat to have a Prius' transmission in our cars, but even as it is, no other car comes close. My in-laws have a gen3 Prius and, though the gap closes somewhat in the conditions you listed, there's still no comparison.

The weather was way better this tank, and I took advantage of the warmer temps to ease my way into my best tank so far in Ron Burgundy!

I've logged 18 tanks in a row over the 70 mpg mark this year. I don't care how low the gas prices drop, it's still a win

Yea I can't get over 65 anymore now that my IMA is dead and I don't have lean burn. I have been getting 60-65 though at 70 on the freeway, which is pretty damn good IMO. I do think ill be getting rid of my insight this coming year when smog is due. I would rather put a 2,000$ down payment on a 2016 1.5l turbo civic than buying a new battery.
