Today, I saw my first VOLT driving around in suburban Ballamer.

It looks like GM is winning the race to get their gas enhanced electric
car on the street.

Oops, no, isn't it really really a overpriced, overly complicated hybrid?

Given Nissans scheduled, and currently delayed without explanations
roll-out for the LEAF, we'll see one around here maybe in late 2011.

Both GM and Nissan have started delivery.

I saw a Leaf driving around here in Phoenix a couple of weeks ago, no Volt so far.

Well, yes.
GM is delivering at least to the contiguous 48 states.

Nissan is delivering to the seven Tier 1 states, six of which are way out west,
Arizona being one of them...

and there's Tennessee.

A bit OT but I noticed a US News syndicated Blurb in my local newspaper already saying that electric cars are a sales failure because they have only sold 10 leafs. In the small writing at the bottom it mentions that the leaf will be sold in all areas after 2011.

I can see the writing on the wall

"Look we couldn't sell any electric cars they aren't profitable we had hundreds of people offering deposits but refused to sell them any, what a failure nobody must want them."

We're waiting for Nissan to confirm or deny this, but it looks like anyone still sitting on the fence about ordering a Leaf or not will soon notice that they've been sitting on barbed wire and had better jump down to one side or the other, pronto. According to a post on My Nissan Leaf, Nissan is going to shut down Leaf reservations today. But it's for a good reason. Here's the text, supposedly taken from a Nissan email that's going to go out later today:
Nissan aggressively anticipated reaching its goal of 20,000 consumer reservations by December 2010 and we are excited to announce that we have reached this goal 3 months ahead of schedule! Therefore, on 9/23/10, Nissan will shut down the reservation system in order to focus on providing the best level of customer service and premium ownership experience to those who have already reserved.

Now, a reservation doesn't mean you will buy one. I wonder what the stats are on forking out $100 to reserve as opposed to paying the $20K (after incentives) or leasing the car. I would guess 50% will actually buy, so that would make 10K sales for the year.

Exactly

To me it was a weasly article worded so it insinuated that there was no demand for electric cars because Nissan had only delivered 10 and GM had only delivered 200.

I think it prudent to keep yours eyes/ears open for BS articles like this and write a letter to the editor on it each time they do it.

I plan on writing a letter on it to my local newspaper because it was pure BS
just because they only made 10 for sale doesn't mean there is no DEMAND.
