Nissan leaf oil change

Yes electric cars use oil. Some people freak out and insist they do not. It's hilarious to troll them with hard indisputable facts.
Here is a used oil analysis for a nissan leaf that went 68,000 miles on its oil.


Probably would be a good idea to change it around 50,000 miles.
Nissan originally said in 2010 that the oil was good for the life of the vehicle, then by 2015 they recommend it be changed at 110,000 miles, but they also want you to buy a new car at some point.
It's only 1.5 quarts and no filter and it's pretty easy to change
So there's no excuse.

Scary report, almost like they made a mistake. Does lead you to think 100k miles are possible with a high break in oil additive

The only way that 100,000 might be recommended is if the oil was changed at say 10,000 assuming most of the stuff was created during break in and then maybe it could go for 100,000 but I doubt it.
I changed mine at about 67,000 miles and didn't think of sending the oil off to be tested till after it had already been dumped in with dirty ICE oil.
I think I will test mine around 25,000 and I bet they will say it's fine.
I'm picked 25,000 because that's usually around the traditional automatic transmission oil change. I bet leaf oil could go about 50,000 on its factory fill. Second fill at least 50,000.

If it doesn't have a filter, then it should be pretty clean on start up. The oil fanatics over on Tdi deisel are hinting I can go 30-50 k but I have philosophical issues with that unless the diesel soot has a lubricating quality. I'm not really happy with 10k recommended

I don't recommend putting motor oil in a leafs transmission.

Previous Saturn used 10w30 in the tranny, I'm guessing my 300,000+ mile cobalt does to but I've never changed it.

I don't understand, why so much aluminum? Surely the gears are mostly iron.
