Maybe another war in the Middle East or a military intervention in Venezuela could lead to a sudden increase in the value of econoboxes, but it might be not likely to remain in effect in the long term.

Venezuela is in such a bad shape that an intervention might even lower oil prices.
What can I say. We tried Maduro's model on a small scale and it draws in tourists but brings no produce. Or whatever. Its late, bedtime is overdue.

Venezuela became a box of surprises, quite unpleasant ones by the way...

Are these guys "normies"?

The Truth About Cars just asked its readers:

QOTD: What Would It Take to Change Your Mind?

Quote:
As of late, though, prices are again on the rise — especially if you live on the West Coast or north of the border. The national U.S. average pump price for regular unleaded hovers around $2.70/gallon this morning

[...]

What’s your limit? How expensive does gasoline have to become before you consider any type of vehicular change?
I'm not sure automotive blog readers/commenters count as normies, though.

numbers!

AAA tried to answer the question through a survey.

From a March 1, 2018 article...

Quote:
A new AAA survey found the vast majority of consumers would change their driving habits or lifestyle to offset higher gas prices.
  • One in four say they would start making changes at $2.75
  • 40 percent say $3.00 is their tipping point.
  • Changes consumers said they would make include combining errands or trips (79%), driving less (73%), reducing shopping or dining out (61%), delaying major purchases (50%) and driving more fuel-efficient vehicles (46%).

People are LIARS!

I vividly remember the first time gas hit $4/gal; for about a week and a half there were noticeably more bicyclists... then poof! they disappeared. Every. Last. One.
Soon after it looked to me like the Chevy dealership was giving away new Silverados because EVERYBODY had one (or a Subdivision). And gas was still $4.

P.S. Good Lord... reading the TTAC comments gives me a headache. I need to stop doing that.

My price limit is a $1.50 a gallon,

That’s why I’ve been mostly EV for over a decade

$8 a gallon - then I'll want an EV.
I want an EV right now. Bloody EU taxes

People claim to drive the speed limit, too.

There was a time when gas seemed awesomely cheap. I still drove economically and did not seem like was getting ahead. Now I just feel more and more like I cannot catch a break. I imagine some diehard EV fanboys would say that I could not afford not to replace my car with electric.

I try to enter Publisher's Clearinghouse everyday for free false hope. They have a contest for some $55,000 truck.

How much would I need to pay in taxes for that? How much would insurance cost, compared to my two 40 MPG teenagers with 200,000 miles average? What would I do with it? If I hauled "stuff" or went off road it would be damaged. How much would gas cost?

Irony would suggest that would be the one thing that I won, they would refuse a cash equivalent, and then would give the trophy to someone else.
