Frankly I don't see much reason to keep pointless jobs. Businesses are fully capable of hiring people to manually turn ceiling fans or run elevators to reverse the trend.

If you need to find something useless for someone to do, so they don't starve to death, there's something systematically wrong.

As I recall, gas is cheaper in Oregon because they have refineries and Washington does not, and studies show that paying for gas station attendants impedes creation of other jobs.

It was a thinly veiled comment about the extreme left attempts to put people on the government dole by raising minimum wage. These jobs were never meant to raise a family of 6, but instead for kids and other low skilled workers to get a foot in the labor market.

McDonalds is already training us so they can replace their cashiers. Those ordering kiosks and mobile app will be the only way to order at some point.

We shouldn't have people doing meaningless jobs, but we also shouldn't set artificial barriers to what should be the freedom to set your own labor price.

As I said, it's up to the business to decide if attendants are worthwhile or not.

Vermont still has scattered full-service stations, and people still use them. A vast majority don't. I expect people are more likely to use them when it's 20 below outside.

I can't say I'm well versed on the real-world effects of a minimum wage, though. I haven't taken the time to educate myself on the short- and long-term social and economic effects.

This topic has about as much agreement from economists as there is consensus among scientists regarding climate change.

People don't do what is best, they do what feels best.

And just this morning, I was reading a news article about Trump voters small business owners losing business because they couldn't hire enough temporary foreign workers for jobs enough Amurricans won't do:
Quote:
Devine says it has been years since he could find enough dependable, drug-free American workers for his $12-an-hour jobs mowing and tending landscapes for cemeteries, shopping centers and apartment complexes across Central Kentucky. So for years he has hired 20 seasonal workers, mostly from Guatemala, through the U.S. Labor Department’s H2-B ‘guest worker’ program. Importing these workers for a few months cost him an additional $18,000 in fees and expenses beyond their wages, which must be the same as he pays American workers. But that’s the only way he could serve his customers.

Yet another reason not to eat at McDonalds.

If your ever in Cedar Flat (not flats ) stop for gas. I don't know where they find those high school girls. There's a different one every other time.

It puts the strikeout on the text! I looked up how to do this, read that it needed to be enabled, and it did not work, so I used MS Paint! It is just [ S ] [ / S ] in square brackets!

I never lack reasons to not eat at McDonalds, but here are a few supporting Redbox-style fast food:
1. A robot would never get my order wrong.
2. A robot will never play on its phone when customers are waiting.
3. A robot would lead to lower prices.
4. Robots still don't have tongues!

Am I missing something?

That is just a little bit too young.

...and you've just made my point of why we don't need minimum wage. The price workers are paid will be in proportion to how much demand there is for their work.

I lack reasons not to go to McDonalds, and yet I rarely go. Cheap calories on the go; perfect for when you need a bite but want to make good time on a road trip. I'm about as likely to get a footlong at Subway.

No such thing as being too young; only being too old.

You're exploring the outer limits of BBcode. vBulletin doesn't support stikethrough natively. Try putting an hyperlink inside a quote.

The other example I have of gas pump girls is Forest Grove, OR in the mid-80s. They had Vietnamese girls [?] in short shorts. It was a different time.
