Do trucking companies count as normies? Nope, probably not...

Shippers, Truckers Face Diesel Prices 22 Percent Above A Year Ago

Quote:
Truckers are adapting to higher fuel costs by investing in more fuel-efficient trucks and aerodynamic trailers to increase their mileage.
While the national average fuel economy for semi-trucks is about 6.5 mpg, Henry Albert, an independent trucker from Statesville, N.C., said he gets 10 mpg because of his focus on fuel efficiency.
Way to go, Henry!!

Quote:
Truckers are adapting relatively low-tech ideas such as covered wheels, trailer aerodynamics and low-rolling resistance tires to save fuel. The adoption of automated manual transmissions also is increasing fuel efficiency, according to NACFE.
If automated manuals are increasing MPG, that suggests poorly trained/incentivised manual drivers, doesn't it?

Anybody here think they could beat an automated manual's MPG?

Strange, it always seems to work for me, E.g. strike out this.

The other example I have of gas pump girls is Forest Grove, OR in the mid-80s. They had Vietnamese girls [?] in short shorts. It was a different time.
But that's rather like topless bars, no? If you just wanted drinks, you could get them cheaper elsewhere.

I looked for a button again (in vain). How does it work? I have to add the tags myself. I tried to link inside a quote and it worked (in Preview) Maybe it was something else.

Not a lot of gas stations in Forest Grove, but it's bigger than Cedar Flat. I don't remember the prices being higher.

I pedaled past a coffee kiosk a few minutes ago. The sign out front said "No more bikinis, family friendly"

I have seen plenty of mothers wearing bikinis. Little girls, too.

Sometimes I just doff my glasses.

Of all of the off topics we have off-topicked in this thread, I think this is the most awkward off topic we have off-topicked.

What is the most off-topicked off topic off-topicked?

Supposedly Dad bought his Focus SFE with an automated manual because it got better fuel economy. Apparently it does, compared to... nothing, Ford's other option.

Saw a Tesla, Ford Fusion hybrid, a Volt, and a few other electric or hybrid cars these past few days. Normally it's only a Prius here and there.

I'd say people are noticing. Several states in the US are above $3/gallon (albeit still lower than Canada lol).

You want off-topic? I got my first ride in an Arcimoto FUV a week ago.

On the way, I had an unscheduled dismount of my bicycle. I'm still wearing bandages on three spots. That roll cage and 4-point seat belt are starting to look pretty good.

It may not be that simple. You know, apart from usually having more gears and a poorer torque-to-weight ratio, big rigs usually resort to non-synchro transmissions. Well, just remind of how the Army had to deal with this problem when the Hummvee was under development, simply required automatic transmissions to be a standard fitment (even though an automatic may make sense under certain circumstances when some mistake with the clutch or the shifter in a war-torn zone may result in deaths or serious wounds to the driver and passengers).

While contemplating girl names with my wife, i jokingly suggested Zelda. Well, she arrived tonight and we havent settled on a name. Zelda grew on me, but no way I’ll be allowed to name her that, nor should i be. Favorite princess names? Favorite cool chick names?

My brother-in-law has a cat named Lara. She's tiny, agile and pitch black. Funny how that name can be both fitting and mismatched at the same time, even for a cat.

Gas prices nearing record height now, 1 saw € 1.789 for a liter today; about 5% below the 2012(?) top.

Congrats!!

Obviously it can't be Portia, because it isn't efficient sounding enough and therefore not worthy. Neither is Mercedes... (On second thought, remember "Boxfish"? Has a nice ring to it.)
