4th gear is usually 1:1 ratio on most cars so you may be able to ditch the gearbox totally. I did some hill climbing tests at 24v with my modified version of the controller and its torque city. Went up the hill in 4th.

Hey,Paul. Sounds like I better hurry up and build the rest of
the controller before it becomes obsolete! Keep us posted on the
144/700 amp testing. Sounds like big things are happening.

Well i am jack bauer I think the fact the motor is compound wound is a major factor. I can pump in loads of shunt field to increase torque and decrease armature current. Can't wait to start testing at 48v!

4th gear on my car is nearly 1 to 1, but I still need the gearbox for the differential reduction (and for something to bolt the motor to ). Overall reduction in 4th is around 5 to 1. I can't comment on compound wound motors, but for a series wound motor I would expect the same results. It should climb the hill with 24 volts. It should even do it at 12 volts, but at half the speed. Amps = torque and volts = rpm. Increasing voltage just increases rpm. If you want more torque you have to increase amps.

speaking of increasing amps, the hardware overcurrent cutback point can be turned as high as 775 amps. It would need to be adjusted in software too. Let me know if you want to try to blow something up, Jack, and I can make the necessary code changes. haha.

hy all

we can use an moddified eeepc 7" as panel pc
(i will post conversion pictures)
and get an serial port using usb2RS232 convertor

can be wired to controler and used for RTD Explorer

power usage is under 20W
weight is under 1kg

rackin' up miles

just clicked over 2000 miles on the controller today (5000 total on the eCar). another milestone! I've only driven my ICE car a few times in the last month - the controller is performing great!
