Any idea of how long before an AC kit will be available Paul?

Also, will the P&S DC motor controller kits work with a Mars ME1003 permanent magnet motor?

Todd,

is your car direct drive or have a transmission?

If its direct, you don't want to spin the motor the reverse direction that its wired for.

This will cause a voltage to be generated and when it reachs the clamping voltage of the diodes, it will be like applying an electric brake by shorting the motor terminals together. IF the current gets beyone the diodes capacity, well...things wont be good.

I found this out in my golf cart by rolling backwards. Never blew anything up though.

All the hardware for the AC seems good. I just got the motor post back yesterday. I had it turned down to 1". $134!!! dang it! I need to get a lathe if I'm ever going to do something like that again.

So, soon I guess. I just really really hate when people get something that has problems. I don't have the money to refund anyone.

Also, a permanent magnet motor has lower inductance, which means it's harder to control the current, but I've never tested anything with a permanent magnet motor, except for my ebike motor. That worked. haha. But it was only 1 HP.

Ha Ha next time anchor the motor down, spin it up, and turn the shaft yourself on a tool holder LOL..... Yep that sounds like a ripoff....

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll be okay. The motor is going in a motorcycle, so I shouldn't be turning it in reverse too fast unless something went really wrong.

I'm looking forward to the AC for another project, a 1000 amper for one, and an Uprising based custom monster for our race car!

I was at the day job earlier and didn't get to comment on this. I am using a little Alltrax controller just to get the bike moving, and until we get the Mars motor and P&S controller kit (and actually build it). In the Alltrax (AXE PM motor - no reverse) wiring diagram it says:

I take it that is to address your point about them having lower inductance...

I was, at first. A few days before (recently) noticing that in the diagram (which I have had for a couple years, and looked at quite a few times) I had watched a video about electric drift trikes - they're like adult Big Wheels, with plastic rear "wheels" that let it slide, and an hub motor in the large front wheel. They both had that little coil of wire...

I remembered from discussions with Jeff from Evnetics and Major on DIYEC about doing things like this for increased inductance, so I kind of understood what it must be for, just not why, until I read your post.

I have a little 4.5" diameter (7" long) PM motor that I'm using to get the bike setup, and have done a couple tests at 12v, with an aftermarket automotive starter button as the contactor/controller (ON/OFF). That motor came with 4ft leads (coming directly out of the frame)...

I would love if it was possible to implement regenerative braking in this project, I don't know if this helps anything, but I hope it does :P
