Yes, but if the moment of full throttle was longer than 0.1sec, there would be a throttle fault, and it would disable the throttle. Even though this sounds like it could be pretty common, I've never heard of a throttle doing this in all the 5 years. I don't mind using a hall effect sensor. I've used a 0-5k pot default in the past because that's just what most people had (the curtis pb-6). It also made debugging easy, since I could just go get a $2 pot at radio shack. It was also easy to detect throttle faults. If the throttle line broke, it would go to infinity, which would be out of range, which would disable things.

The other concern I have is the signal being from 0v to 5v. At the moment, zero throttle is like 1.5v, and full is 3.5v (or vice versa), which protects the port from being close to 0 or 5v. 0v with noise would push it to the dreaded -0.6v (or 5.6v). The poor little diodes on the port have to conduct to prevent that. I know Damien has used one for some time. I'm sure they are fine. Those are just the thoughts running thru my head. Let me check out the hall effect throttle... brb.

Wow! That looks simple. Are they available outside of australia? It seemed like Damien's had 10 wires or something. I could be wrong.

I found one on eBay. Shipped from China for USD$75.99 including postage. Which is cheaper than the EV Works one.
Throttle PB 6 Type 0 5V Hall Effect Throttle BOX | eBay
They look the same, it may be a factory in China that supplies Ev Works just selling them direct on eBay. Or maybe the EV Works one is produced locally and the eBay one is a copy.
I have ordered the eBay one, it will be interesting to see what it is like.

Just had another thought, it shouldn't be too difficult to adjust the throttle arms travel to make it output 1.5v to 3.5v if required. Thereby avoiding any noise related excursions into diode death valley.

Lol. I'm right now just adding both as an option. You want hall? Ok. Use the connector labeled hall. You want pot? Visit my hometown of olympia washington. Haha. I'll just include 2 more robust diodes on the throttle port for safety. Then you wouldn't need to worry.

A 3rd alternative is to use my ex brother in laws head for a throttle, since he's a pot head. Haha.

Sound like those of us who already have controllers are out of luck.

Not necessarily. You can make a simple modification to the board that would allow a hall sensor. Cut out a couple resistors, add a wire or 2 and KABLAMEE... hall effect.

If you want to order one, I'll make the code change. You would have to take the board out for the change to hardware.

Thinking about it. But don't make the code changes for it yet. If I continue to have problems with the pot I will order a hall one and ask you to Betty Crocker the hardware changes.

Paul,

Is it possible to create a 'rtd' command, that would spit out one line of rtd data on request? in addition to the rtd-period.

I'm having a hard time with the continuous stream of data on the raspberry a.t.m. and such a command would help me a lot.

thanks.
