11.1 miles today.

I drove about 11.1 miles today. Almost nonstop, pretty hard accelerating, to test out the blower. The top half of the motor was warm, and the bottom was hot. I'm going to buy 2 MORE BLOWERS!!! Then, I'm going to attach blowers on the right and left side of the motor too! Then finally my dream of a Tesla will have come true. They are on sale for $38/2.

Good to hear that it's working out for you.

Is there any way that you can attach them in an equilateral fashion, so they're at 120* to each other?

Just one of those things... it might help with keeping the temps the same all around... Might still be a good idea to use the thermoswitch too, since you don't want the motor too cool, right?

Maybe too cool isn't a concern... I dunno, not very knowledgeable about e-motors.

EWWWW! Damn.. I can't wait for mine ~june '09.

Anyway, back on topic lol.

What about 4 fans... two in, two out...

Bah, now I'm just using a stylistic mindset.. I'm sure two would do great, and you should keep the extra one in case one gives out.

Oh.

I forgot that tidbit, if you posted it earlier in the thread (you probably did). But the Oprah tidbit was still very good.

The motor in the ForkenSwift is about 110 lbs.

Is the motor held up only by the adapter plate? In my next conversion, I'll have a slightly larger motor, but I don't know if I need some sort of thing supporting the back end of the motor if it's heavier.

If the metro is anything like my (and most) Civic, most of the mounts are on the transmission..

I can't imagine it would be too awful difficult to make a small plate that bolts to the "front" of the e-motor and mount the OEM front engine mount to it, so that it bolts to the original mount in the car, and it should only add *at most* about 20 lbs, which can easily be reclaimed by telling your wife that no synthetic fabrics are allowed to be worn in your "green car". (If she's anything like mine, that includes most of her wardrobe, bonus.) :P

Also, if you have a front and a rear transmission mount, (one to the crossmember, and one to the opposite side), you could use some 3M Windo-Weld to fill in those mounts, making them essentially solid, so th e tranny won't "limp" under the unmounted weight of the e-motor.

Realistically, you could fill as many mounts as you're using, and have essentially solid mounts, that still don't transfer vibration much. (Plus, you're using an e-motor, which doesn't have the harmonics that a gas motor has.

The Windo-Weld is a temporary solution, and will flake eventually, but some people have had it in for a couple years with no problems.

The commutator end is supported with a band around the motor attached to the original motor mount.
