He just "Fred Flintstones" it! Additional weight savings from the holes he cut in the floorboard.

I agree completely - he's nuts. I have every indication he drives 30-40mph under the speed limit and lives in a rural area where he's unlikely to harm anyone, but even so.

I believe he has also removed his radiator fan, because the 1.0L is so unloaded it generally doesn't ever get up to temperature, even with a full grille block and hot air intake. Can't recall if he swapped his glass for lexan or not.

Hey guys just checking in. I've decided to keep the prius and have it sprayed, the crz will be too difficult to get under .28Cd. And thanks yes I do leave for work early and drive slowly but it's quaint in the country, I like it, and there is still a radiator although it could be made smaller..2kgs maybe..

from rough estimations (in my experience) 18kg equalled 1mpg difference but that will be different depending on wether you do long runs or round town, for me personally

Ok guys bear with me, so theres a few changes I've had in mind, the rear bumper, Ive been thinking of butchering it for some time, this picture helps with the idea, the wheel covers, I may keep mine they are more aerodynamic and for the front bumper I may make the angle where the air is deflected upwards lower and increase the sharpness of the curve looking from above the car and fill the whole upper air dam area and smooth. Its hard to explain, also make new rear door sections but will use thin plywood to make proper molds. They wont be the same shape as the old doors but just like 3 door car shape. Hard to explain but that and some underneath work, maybe aluminium will be done. Hope to take 10 weeks off work and will take pictures...I only think maybe 104-106 but will be hell of a lot neater and white/black

...like I said I've reviewed weights and Cd's of many new and old cars (volvo c30 was a contender over the cr-z) including the newer c class mercedes (.22) and no matter what I could do would'nt match the prius for weight (the insight being too small). Even finding a bodykit like the one pictured which is now not around it will cost a fraction of the cost to take the time myself and buy in cf or vs buying a new car. May price up cf driveshafts too..

Prius OEM 15 inch Rim/Wheel

FYI
2004-09 Toyota Prius Gen 2 OEM 15inch rim/wheel weight is about 19.84 lbs without tire.

The above being true I have been really really thinking about aftermarket rim/wheels....for my vehicle

The Japanese Enkei J10 15 inch rim scale weight is 14.4 lbs without tire....these also require specific center ring and lugs....

Take care Nathan and good to see your post

Have you considered the Mitsubishi Mirage - 2013 onwards.

845kg and 0.27 CD.

I suspect you could go sub 800 kg in a weekend.

They are the most efficient non-hybrid 5 person car on the market.

Even on short trips I am presently returning 75 - 78 mpg imp with just a grill block.

A member of Insight Central currently has his Insight down to 650kg with a roll cage and larger/heavier tires, and they're good for 120mpg imperial in stock form.

In the post I was replying to the OP said that he was ruling out the insight as it was too small for his requirements. My best so far in the Mirage is 92 mpg imp so I suspect the OP could break 100 mpg imp with only a fraction of the mods that he did to his Prius.

Apologies, and yes my post was probably not all that helpful.

Nathan, I'd love to see you hack up a bumper, your weight reductions have been pretty impressive so far, both in how much you've shaved and in the clean implementation.

Hi CR45 thanks for your reply and input. Hmmm it seems they do feature a cvt. And the .27 is on the G and M trim models (thinner tyres and spoilers) however they are available. Quite an interesting option...

And thanks ecky, I have grown quite attached to the prius. Also I wish I could make bumpers and body parts as clean looking as manufacturers
