Spotter,

Ha, very similar. Many people (25-55) on my car forums berate me for using "dangerous" techniques like pulse and glide or EOC, but it's a pretty mixed bag regarding the looks. I'll get random compliments on it but many people think it's the stupidest thing ever. Most little kids seem to love it.

By the way, a guy I met the other week said he saw a Matrix that had a Kammback, then a boat tail. I'm assuming it was your car! He was in the 16-25 bracket and thought it looked silly.

Do you pulse and glide to get 43mpg?

Let's just say I get a lot of "crap" for its looks!

Ditto. Spotter. One more thing about the Elders, 'round here they all seem to think I'm smuggling something in the tail. I try to keep a new and fresh reply handy, but when properly surprised, I usually revert to "Ex-wife." There have been some instances where "Moonshine" slips out. That always gets a laugh.

Sven- Looks cool, very Bonneville. Looking forward to your results.

I did have a kamback on for about 6 months, then I added the tail. As for his thoughts I do not care, I just smile and coast right on by.

I do not p&g and 43 is low. My 90 day average still has 3 tanks of snow, snow tires and cold. As temps com up I get 50-54 mpg.

Jethro : with my big back window people think its for extra space, which is somewhat true. One pickup truck driver asked me if I added that thing to make my car into a Tuck.

I'm sure all three of you guys have heard people say " If you want to get 50 MPG, why don't you just buy a used Prius ??? "

How do you reply to that ?

I showed one of the guys at work the AeroCivic and that was his comment.

Sure a pruis gets about the same mpg but my goal is to do the best with what I have. The cost to change cars would be more then the gas savings , at least for 3 years or so.

My answer: if I had a Prius, I would mod the crap out of it too.

I give that answer too.

Just think what we could do with a leaf? Bigger battery, full tail, coasting, in summer I bet 110 miles is possible.

Answer: The Probe cost less than my DSLR. It's also a fun project for me, as I imagine it is for you all.

New alternator is sitting in the passenger seat. I picked it up from a friend at the Woodward meet tonight. Just need to throw it in. It's supposed to be 60 degrees tomorrow so we'll see what happens.

I also want to do a top speed test at some point. Hmm

Yep it's fun. I tell people, gear heads mostly, that we enjoy the same thing. Modding cars. They give me an odd look then I say I just mod for less horse power, better top speed, and better mpg. Most of them get it and start asking how fast the car will go.

I pull their chain and say about 85 mph down hill with a tail wind otherwise its about 55 mph.

What's this local meet you speak of? There are none in my area.

Sounds like the Autozone in Royal Oak, not the parts store, the collectible car scale model store.
