Looks like a 69 mustang and a 66 firebird had an one nighter. Kinda sexy although.

I have to admit, that's not a combination I've ever dreamed of before, it does look right.

I've always wondered what a fastback Camaro would look like, and now I know.

1950 Trippel SK10

Where do I put this? It's probably aero as far as shooting brakes go... it's un-aero vs the coupe... it's odd and it's one of one...

Hanns Trippel

Very cool, looks like he was into hydrodynamics as well as aerodynamics.

I'll have to translate that page.

I think you found the right thread.

EDIT: Translation of the Hanns Trippel caption/passage.

Quote:
Hanns Trippel (1908-2001) became known in Germany during the interwar years to produce amphibious cars. Just before the war, he began producing these for the German armed forces. At the outbreak of war in 1939, he had 250 men working in his factory in Homburg an der Saar. After France had surrendered, Trippel was installed at the old Bugatti factory in Molsheim. This factory was renamed Trippel-Werke GmbH on January 15, 1941, and during this war he built about 1,000 amphibious cars of the Triple SG6 type. This car had a 2.5 liter Opel Captain engine.
EDIT-2:

Quote:
After that, Trippel went back to producing amphibious cars. He developed a small open car that he called "Amphiecar". This was a leisure car for the American and German markets. The car was produced in the 1960s, and a total of about 3500 of this car was made.
I never knew of the connection between these two amphibians before.

In previous discussions the double bubble roof as I nicknamed it was thought to be for ingress/egress on the Prius and Viper coupe. However, it was also on a student project car in India where it had no such function.

I still think it has something to do with vortex generation, or at least rounding the rear top corners in this example.

Abarth used to use a double bubble roof to save a bit of frontal area down the middle, but in this case, I think the aesthetics are reason enough.
