Butterfly doors from 2011:

I wonder how a BMW pickup would go over in Texas. Maybe with propane flame-thrower exhaust tips?

It would not be a big seller, but if product placement in a block buster movie (Transformers XXIIV?) gave it good exposure they could get more than one year out of it.

I just noticed the buttress venting that you like on that concept Golf so much being applied here.

They have a nice trailing edge roof spoiler, but did not air curtain vent it like I did on mine.

I just noticed the mirror location (only shown in some images).

This link has a lot of cars including the BMW Pickster.

I've chosen the below for the excellent over the top airflow for an open top car, plus the oddity of the front wheel well openings being on the leading not trailing upper edge.

The passenger is also staggered rearward to narrow up the car.

On the below car, true tandem seating.

Thanks. I wonder what those massive side scoops lead to ...aside from the rear brakes.

What the heck, you have some good eyes.

I thought the upper opening at the rear of the side glass was the exclusive air feed, but now you have opened my mind up to the possibility that a massive amount of air is being channeled upward at the backside of the A-pillar.

Philosophy can be a distraction when attempting to visualize in a scientific manner. However it may help when things turn artistic.

Looking one more time at the various angles, it is a simple inlet air rear quarter of side window under the buttress.

The massive side intake does NOT swoosh upward as it looks in the pure side view only. The mind saw something that was not there for a moment.

Previous photos show the massive V-12 stuffed into the front engine compartment, so maybe the radiator is under the bed and supplied with electric fans and an elaborate rear diffuser to exhaust the air (bad maybe - oops).

There are hints of this, but it's just another guess, an attempt at forensic analysis based on available photos and text.

https://www.motor1.com/photo/2830194...kster-concept/

EDIT-1:
Maybe the radiator is squeezed up front.

I suspect there are two stages of development of this car. One as shown in the video and still images in the motor1 link above, and a second road going car with side view mirrors and perhaps additional cooling elements at the side on the car.

Clearly the side intake panel is a block off panel in the motor1 video, but is it that way in the later version on the road?

EDIT-2:

Based on the sketches, the show car, and the road going images my current best guess is:

1. Early concept sketches intended a mid-engine V-12

2. Show car front engine, front cooling radiator.

3. Road car is same, I can see no evidence of additional mid/rear cooling system.

The depth and size of the lower body side intakes are clearly different between the early sketches and what was fabricated. I did find the motor1 video illuminating as blurry and jumpy as it was (see below).

Some odd automotive aerodynamics featured in this 17 minute video, I skipped around a lot as I hate the narration voice.

Top 15 Craziest Concept Cars 2020

I think it's safe to say that self-driving cars have the potential to radicalize traditional automotive aerodynamics. At least as much as going electric.

Kind of like comparing the looks of a submarine to a surface ship.

I watched again just to listen. My pet peeve is up-speak and down-speak. An example would be Ancient Architects The channel trailer isn't bad but when he gets going the last syllable of each sentence drops an octave.

What I do is almost mute the audio and turn on closed captions.

On a side note, as CR would say; have you seen the internal ducting in the Type III notchback and squareback? The notchback is especially convoluted.
