I think they create a vortex, and that helps to prevent the buffeting that would otherwise happen with the window open.
Typically air rolls over the A pillar from the bottom of the windscreen to the sides, and that would then hit the wing on the mirror and be guided upwards.

It's also related to hydro-dipping (duckduckgo.com/?q=hydro-dipping). A material floating on the water coats the projectile as it enters the water.

Who knows to what depth it would be efficacious.

I wonder what the secret is for the multi-Mach-speed water-diving UFOs the Navy has been videoing.

As did Bill Cooper and all who followed him, after Behold A Pale Horse.

As long as the projectile itself provides enough ballast weight, it may work well even in a reasonable depth.

justacarguy.blogspot.com: more proof that nearly anything can be hot rodded

A re-imagining rather than a clone? Original had drilled wheels and no headrest.

Makes me wonder how that body could fare with a custom-built chassis and a Chevrolet Nova powertrain. There was at least one Citroën 2CV in Argentina rebuilt around a custom chassis with a 250cu.in. Chevy straight-6.

IMHO that would be a lame as putting a front engine V-8 under a Beetle body. It's disproportionate. You'd lose this:

This could work with a Highlander/Lexus electric axle at one or both ends.

Front engine under a Beetle body is always quite out of place.

Sure the original suspension layout of the 2CV is interesting, yet in Argentina later versions made by another company which had bought former assets of Citroën Argentina replaced this very same chassis for another one which had a more conventional suspension.
