Sure the original suspension layout of the 2CV is interesting, yet in Argentina later versions made by another company which had bought former assets of Citroën Argentina replaced this very same chassis for another one which had a more conventional suspension.
Agreed that the "new Beetle" is an abomination, but I'm curious if the Argentine 2CV suspension would still let a farmer drive across a plowed field with a cargo of eggs.

I see this and I'm reminded of current F1 practice, with a passenger safety tub and raised snout to carry the front suspension.

....just with a front engine.

I was actually refering to engine swaps into the original Beetle

Only derivatives made by the defunct IES featured that different suspension. All the models made by Citroën itself, and their IES equivalents made shortly after the sale of Citroën Argentina assets around '79, featured the very same original 2CV suspension. But anyway, don't expect the ones with the Argentina-only IES frame to fare as well driving cross-country.

I knew that but still agree with Bicycle Bob.

My 1961 Type II panel van weighed 1750lb and had 3/4-ton rated axles, so, ...it was close.

Me too. I refuse to consider something a Beetle if it doesn't perform reasonably on unpaved rural pathways.

For me it's the rear engine and backbone floorpan. My Superbeetle barely clears 3.5" bump strips. Did I de-Beetle it?

Well, firstly, it IS a superbug, so that could throw the whole initial argument off.

cRiPpLe_rOoStEr's argument.

I play to it's strengths, if it weren't for the traffic control strips it's be set 1/2 inch lower.

Let's not forget the rear engine was still considered a valuable asset to enhance the Beetle's performance on rough terrain, no wonder it was so popular in rural areas of my country until mid-80s, and briefly relaunched locally from '93 to '96 competing against models which were around 40 to 50 years more modern.

Not sure if it’s really UnAerodynamic or more of a Aerodynamic oddity...

So I’m posting it in both threads.
