This is not ecomodder-typical, but....

Hoonipigasus aero

Very good explanations of the whys and wherefores of the aerodynamic details, barge board, etc. One thing I noticed, was the rear difusser starts at the driver seat. The first pictures I posted on Ecomodder were of a VW Beetle that had an underfloor that the seat (old EMPI fiberglass rear buckets) was recessed into, but it appears that I still have an account on Imgur, but it's empty.

On the topic of NACA ducts, he calls out one at 14:32 but it's not, it's more of a nostril. There's no flat rear edge.

Not sure how worse aerodinamically-wise is the roof-mounted air conditioner in this Mercedes-Benz truck, yet the air inlet for the condensers could've been improved...

That's the least of the problems, it's not even the full width of the roof.

Contrarotating props fail for commercial airliners because of the excessive noise. but here is a setup that has the efficiency (up from Mach 0.55 to 0.80) but is as quiet as the newest high-bypass fanjets. It is done with a variable pitch stator.

Just like those swamp-coolers I often see in trucks, it's meant to be fitted at the stock location of a venting hatch on the roof.

People tend to see propellers in general as "outdated" and jets as modern, and this often leads some to believe an Embraer regional jet to be better suited to routes which an ATR could serve better.

Wouldn't want to see this coming at me.

The YF-23’s Air Inlet Design Was Its Most Exotic Feature You Never Heard Of
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zon...never-heard-of

Quote:
So instead of creating separate intake structures with splitter gaps underneath the YF-23, Northrop installed 'gauzing panels' atop and ahead of where the fuselage meets the leading edge of the air intake. These panels had small holes drilled all over them and would 'suck-up' the boundary layer air 'sticking to' to the fuselage before it entered the air intake. This air was then vented out of a flush aperture and a pair of small doors on the YF-23's upper surface. In effect, it acted like an invisible splitter plate of sorts but instead of separating the air it removed it. The system was called the Boundary Layer Control System and worked automatically.
Quote:
Having holes drilled into splitter-plates wasn't new. It had been done many times in the past to remove the boundary air that began to manifest itself on the plate itself before entering the engine. For instance, the Eurofighter EF2000 has this feature on its upper splitter plate that is easy to spot. The Super Hornet also uses it on the inside of its intakes. Older aircraft, like the F-4, also used perforations on their splitter plates to remove air clinging to the intake's surface. But integrating a more refined version into the jet's fuselage itself and eliminating the splitter plate or intake offset altogether was new.

All engine cooling comes through a belly scoop. Builders have tried various permutations of this inlet.

Makes me wonder how that 6-cyl D-Motor flathead engine with liquid-cooling could fare.

Subaru Accidentally Predicted Modern Cars With Its XT Coupe
https://www.carscoops.com/2022/05/su...urbo-xt-coupe/

Quote:
While many cars are built with aerodynamics in mind, they are usually economy models, not svelte sports coupes. The design was the responsibility of Kyuchi Akari who lived with an aerodynamic engineer when he was studying car design.

The XT, therefore, has all sorts of tricks to make the air move around it as smoothly as possible, such as flush door handles, retractable wipers, headlight covers, and pop-up headlights. The rear window was also perfectly styled to reduce aerodynamic drag.

Overall, the sports coupe managed to have a drag coefficient of just 0.31 for the all-wheel drive model, and 0.29 for the front-wheel drive one. For reference, a Bugatti Veyron has a minimum drag coefficient of 0.36.
Did they measure drag any differently in the mid 1980's? That number seems artificially low or optimistic to say the least.

Video in link calls all Subaru's weird and out in left field. Maybe why I like them?

Nothing worse than being called mainstream in my opinion.
