This is a figure from Hucho's book; it isn't exactly the same as what's in the 4th edition, so probably from an earlier edition (since Hucho wasn't involved with the current 5th edition).

Probably pretty good. Luigi Colani explored that territory

World’s Most Aerodynamic Production Car Teased, V177 A-Class Sedan Incoming

Quote:
Even though the Volkswagen XL1 has a drag coefficient of 0.19, it isn’t considered the most aerodynamic production car in the world because only 250 examples were ever made. Series production is on a different level altogether, and in regard to that, Mercedes-Benz did it again with the A-Class Sedan. Codenamed V177, the newcomer has been leaked ahead of the debut of the China-only A-Class L Sedan......................

With a drag coefficient of 0.22 and frontal area of 2.19 square meters, the newcomer defends the aerodynamic record of the CLA Coupe.

Using present day technology, especially electric drive, suspension, ... the Schlörwagen could be made into a pretty practical vehicle, MPV style, with generous boot space (ditching the ICE at the rear), good balance (low slung battery pack) lots of floor area, rear hatch ...

How would you overcome Gestalt?

Gestalt psychology
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gestalt_psychology
Quote:
Our brain is capable of generating whole forms, particularly with respect to the visual recognition of global figures instead of just collections of simpler and unrelated elements (points, lines, curves, etc.).
What I mean is the human brain has the habit of defining an object by the box it will fit into.

One may see the Schlörwagen as leaving a lot of that box empty and feel angry or cheated out of NOT filling out the box - where is the rest of the car?

When one sees a box van we instinctively perceive there is a lot of volume and therefore value, hence a intrinsically frugal appreciation or scorn is established based on our own values system.

Value system aside, our brains are always aware of this metric, stray too far from the norm and you are figuratively outside the box. The "tall poppy" or peer pressure of society says we must fit in or be cast out.

People brave enough to lead the way are often cast outs before they succeed. Appealing to these cast outs is a more limited market and perhaps too different for mass appeal and risks being orphaned.

The Schlörwagen is a cast out, but I identify with other cast outs and would accept it into my clan. Then again I am a freak of some kind, just look at my cars and hobbies.

The freak market isn't that big, if it were we would all be freaks and it would be norm. Normal is the opposite of freak, the world would be upside down were that to happen.

Yes, the Sunday morning coffee has kicked it - good stuff. So good I cannot believe it's legal.

There are several general ways to deal with groupthink aka gestalt: embrace it as is or make it outlandish. A radical paint job could cause it to be so odd it swings back into uber hip.

I thought is was spelled ghestschaldt and got it confused with zietgiest for a moment

I went far beyond my college schooling about Gestalt, I sort of made things up a bit to test the waters and see if I could connect the dots.

Gestalt as I was taught was show a half a circle and people say - hey, that's half a circle. The mind knows it's half a circle because it knows what a full whole circle should look like. Kind of confusing but also stupid obvious.

Gestalt might not be the best word for what I was attempting to describe, one would think there is a better or more specific science tapped into this, "group think" as you say.

I assume there is a huge cultural divide on such thinking, eastern or remote tribal thinking is bound to be different than western culture, right?

Some people may not see a square or circle unless it is perfectly drawn, their minds so limited to "either is, either not".

Sort of like trying to figure out a typo or bad spelling, some people cannot figure out the word with even a single letter missing or misplaced.

Others can come up with 20 better words and fly right by the mistake embracing the concept being conveyed without judgement or condemnation.

It's a great point, I'm watching what's called the NPC meme. It's related.

But it goes deeper, I think, than people feeling cheated. I mean the biases introduced by the Cartesian coordinate system. Overlaid of course, on Mother Nature's coordinate system. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synergetics_(Fuller)

Quote:
Synergetics is the empirical study of systems in transformation, with an emphasis on total system behavior unpredicted by the behavior of any isolated components, including humanity's role as both participant and observer.

Since systems are identifiable at every scale from the quantum level to the cosmic, and humanity both articulates the behavior of these systems and is composed of these systems, synergetics is a very broad discipline, and embraces a broad range of scientific and philosophical studies including tetrahedral and close-packed-sphere geometries, thermodynamics, chemistry, psychology, biochemistry, economics, philosophy and theology. Despite a few mainstream endorsements such as articles by Arthur Loeb and the naming of a molecule "buckminsterfullerene", synergetics remains an iconoclastic subject ignored by most traditional curricula and academic departments.
