some Yammie bits... note the dual-tract intake, where each cyl breathes through one tube at low rpms and both when wound out... pretty much wasted tech for me

That's absolutely insane there, having dual runners on the intake. But I suppose allowing only 1 intake valve to suck in the air at low rpms would increase the airflow speed and make the gas vaporize that much better.

I bet it sounds like a beast when it takes off at WOT. Not that you would know about that

No, it really doesn't. They're great engines, but they sound like poop. (Comparatively)

Intake runner length, and diameter make huge differences in where a motor makes it's power.

Dupont v's Slick-50?

Hi,

Both Dupont and Petrolon agree with you. They both state that Teflon is not the active ingredient in Slick 50 (the original pre 1983 formula).

Maybe this is the time to point out that DuPont (the maker of Teflon) specifically maintains no knowledge of any advantages from using their product in motor vehicle engines.

There have been a variety of products marketed by various companies under the brand label "Slick 50." Currently, the only one on the market is owned by ITW Global Brands, which has a stable of automotive products including Gumout and RainX. Previously, Slick 50 was owned and marketed by Shell, which acquired it when it bought Quaker State, which was fined by the FTC in 1997 for making false and misleading claims about the product. A company called Xcelplus (which appears to be defunct) tried to bring their own Slick 50 to market in 2004, claiming it was the original formula and that the Shell brand was a copy. As far as I can find, Dupont does not now and never had ownership of the Slick 50 brand.

Also, the post you responded to is 8 years old....

The real point is that it was only the Slick-50 name that was sold in 1983 (not the formula). Who better to explain what happened than the guy who invented it?
