These aren't a hard plastic but they aren't like the old fly swatter rubber mud flaps either. They do have a bit of flex though. I'm going to have to get a little creative with the mounting so maybe a little extra support is in order.

As they say, "there is nothing new, under the sun"

Here is a post from years ago showing some wheel spats. Including my minivan spats. I made mine custom by constructing a frame from heavy wire then sewing some polyester cloth over them, heat shrinking the fabric then doing a wet layup of heavy carbon. Once cured you can peel off the frame and cloth and are left with a stable good shape.

The grill cover was made similarly with the cloth but just taped it on the car. Wet layup of heavy carbon fibre and take it off The shape is a copy of the form fit cloth.

Forgive my ignorance, but what are the benefits of these "spats" and "strakes"?

Control of airflow. Keep it moving past without gaining (much) turbulence. Think of turbulence as requiring horsepower to overcome.
