I hope I never do that again, though I’m sure I will again someday. I think I may walk out my door with a Medal of Honor for being such a masochist. Works great, and I’m surprised the oil change access panel I made actually opens with the skin-right shape of the panel.

And that’s only one part of the underbody...kill me

Aluminum flashing is is easy to use. Coat it with a rubberized spray except near the exhaust. Multiple layers of aluminum and gasket paper can be used to form insulation. Scrap appliance sheet steel with the enamel coating is durable. Pay attention to the rear pan from the rear suspension to the bumper cover. Extending the tail past the bumper involves legal safety standards. I have a hitch mounted cargo carrier that mounts behind the bumper. A 20 inch by 60 inch cargo box would have to let the tail lights be visible or have approved lights attached. On our 2007 Honda Accord the center brake light is on the upper part of the trunk lid. As you fabricate your front grill consider incorporating fog lamps. These would be wired to the low beam circuit with a relay and switch. Check the repair manual for your car. On our Accord the front facia must come off to change the headlamps.

Busy lately, forgot to come back and post.

My underbody panel job was cut off prematurely due to my dad needing the lift so I did everything else up more or less nicely.

Was going to make wheel covers stop the hub caps but the ones I have are liable to roll a thousand miles away so I bolted them directly to the rim on the raised ring around the lug nuts. They actually look kinda neat.

Made a lower grille block from coroplast and backed it with some styrofoam blocks, one of which I carved into a rough bell mouth, and covered it in duct-tape for some protection. More of a tapered duct than an actual bellmouth but it works fine. I’ve also got a sheet steel plate that fits between the foam and Coro to fully block the intake, which I’ll probably put on soon with how hypothermic it’s getting outside lately.

I also made a mount for my Scangauge, and routed the cable much more cleanly, so I won’t be snagging my foot on the wire anymore.

It’s freezing outside (-20 lately, but feels worse), so I’m getting around 38-40MPG average trips. EPA is 39, but I doubt they drive in the frosty wasteland I live in. I’m more than pleased. Stupid fart can negates all of it, but when coasting the car glides along very quietly.

Except, my battery is toast, so that’s fun. You immediately become thankful you chose a light, manual trans car when you get stuck at an intersection and it won’t start. Flintstoning it is actually doable.

Does anybody know anything about making a fart can quieter? I don’t have the stock muffler and I don’t want to put any money down for a new one. I’m pretty tired of the constant wailing mine puts out and want a solution.

Put in an insert that reduces the diameter at the outlet.

Resurrect an old thread? Sure

I’ve put the car to good use by now and gotten a good idea of what holds up to these stupid winters. Looking for opinions on some new ideas:

First, a lift kit. I’m only really driving when it’s too cold to bike, so why not lift the car a bit for snow? Any experiences with that? Will it make for lots of drag? Is it hard to do? Being able to actually get under there would be nice too.

Second, reinforcing my bumpers with coroplast. This is my first standard and I’ve had many days where I questioned how I passed my drivers test. Both my front and rear bumpers are cracked pretty terribly. In the future I’ll repair them with fibreglass, but for now I’m thinking coro and rivets. It’s -40 C here, and the plastic cracks like nothing. Since I’m going to be remaking parts of both bumpers regardless, what if I reinforced them from the inside with coroplast? I think it could help a ton with lessening repairs needed but it’ll probably help just as much with committing manslaughter. Lemme know.

Coroplast is similar to cardboard. Polymetal is similar to 5/8" plywood. At at most twice the weight. Takes poprivets well.
