Ok probably a stupid idea but here goes. today i had a scare when the throttle stuck wide open. Not a failed controller. Could we have a large button or a keypress that immediatly commands zero throttle regardless of input?

The best I can think of would be a button that would send a "bat-amps-lim 1" command that would tell the controller that it cant draw more then 1 battery amp. This would slow you down really quick.

If you keep the clutch you can press it to the floor fast - essentially separating the motor from the wheels. The over-rev protection should keep the motor from exploding and you can use the brake to stop as quickly or as slowly as you like. Once you are stopped just turn the ignition off to open the contactor.

In my opinion this would be a more natural reaction for a driver than reaching somewhere for a "kill" switch. Although, adding a switch too is probably a good idea.

I think that a "Kill Switch" should be mandatory in any type of experimental Electric Vehicle; if it is at the controller level protecting the motor for over-rev it, would be fine.
Usually, a "Kill Switch" is installed first on line after the traction battery power source to the vehicle.

Any panic button should basically disconnect the battery pack and not rely on the cpu being able to respond to commands. I.e. interrupt the contactor, but physically separating the contacts is even better. I like how Darin reused the clutch pedal for this especially (plus redundant contactors on key and pedal up).

About the "ForkenSwift" clutch safety disconnect, it's a nice concept, for clutchless vehicles, but also a big concern in case of a common mistake of pressing the clutch pedal while in motion, in this case will be an Anderson's contact burner because of arcing at disconnect, but I guess it will be on the driver's ability NOT to play around.........
Safety measures are never to redundant in my book.

this unit has 800x480 display
RTD Explorer crashes often unless is set to full screen
can you help and set an smaller resolution

Can you provide me with some more information about the system? Processor, Speed, Amount of Memory.

Also would you be able to get a screen shot of any errors that come up?

How does it crash? Does it just close, or does it hang and you have to kill the process? What OS are you using also.
