These new effiicient car models seem to start putting the mirrors again to door panel instead of a pillar corner and I believe the reason is lower drag coefficient. all the other new cars put the leg of the mirror as low as possible and thin as possible. So you would want your mirror to be as low as possible and leave the a pillar corner a gap for the air to flow nicely

I bougth to my touareg Opel corsa mirrors, which were really cheap about 30€ per piece online.
I am hoping to see a 0,015 drag drop in my touareg which has huge mirrors at the moment.
not a single efficient vehicle puts mirrors on the door. they all put it in the pillar corner. every single tesla model. newest prius. hyundai ioniq

Don't know which thread is right for this.
I was scrolling the instagram and found these nice mirrors:

(Link: https://www.rizoma.com/en/bss_stealth.html)

It is called Rizoma Stealth. They are designed for motorcycles, but could be a good idea to rework any car mirror in the similar setup.

The Cd 0.1716, 2022 M-B EQXX concept uses door-mounted mirrors.
According to FUJI Heavy Industries, the important aspect of a side mirror is that, it be held some minimum distance away from the body ( they found 80mm to be efficacious ).

Was that because it is away from vortices from the A-pillar or because it created separation all down the side of the car in its wake?

But what is the point? Maybe useful for track use. But on the road, would you really want to have to flip your mirrors every time you want to use them? Surely the point is you can see things all the time?

They look cool, appear to be made nicely, but serve very little purpose. In my opinion anyway.

My jurisdiction: need mirror on driver side. Doesn't need to see anything in it, but I must be able to recognize things 300ft behind me without turning around. Sounds like an excellent decoy for a rear view camera supplement

My mini crafted mirror is only about an inch or two out from the body. Maybe that’s why I’m getting such bad wind noise from it
