Based on some people's definition, even those guys aren't off grid.

Off grid people would be those who wear animal fur, having cut the hide using obsidian rocks they found. Nothing mined, nothing machined.

I was actually trying to promote electric vehicles and dispel ridiculous rumors and notions put forth by the pickup truck driving wife beater wearing, may or may not have graduated high school, toothless people who likely have never actually seen an electric car in person.
My bad.

Why?
One of their biggest selling points is that they contain no toxic heavy metals.
As far as I know at the very least most states have laws requiring lead acid batteries be recycled.
The reason they are recycled because they are around 90% by weight toxic heavy metal. It is the best and worst things about them.
Forcing the UNeconomic recycling of lithium batteries will just make them more expensive.

By that logic - you would have to smelt the aluminum and cast the generator engine yourself ...

The Tesla Model 3 is the most profitable car sold in the US - it is fifth best selling by volume, and it generated the most profit.

Tesla built more cars in the 3rd quarter of 2018 - than they built in all of 2016. And there are now 450,000 Tesla cars on the road.

I have seen a tesla, even here in s-hole new Mexico.
It had Virginia plates, so the owner is probably a military transplant.

Weight is a disadvantage when hitting a immovable object. The test is only tangentially relevant in the real world.

This is why the NHTSA very clearly says that crash ratings are not comparable between different classes of cars or cars in the same class that differ by more than 250lbs.

EDIT: Per the Jalopnik article linked above; the cut-off for a 5 star rating is a 10% chance of injury. A car with a 29% chance of injury would get a 2 star rating.

The Model 3 scored lower than the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class, and Audi A4 in IIHS crash tests. That blows a hole in the "Tesla Model 3 is the safest car ever" headlines.
The IIHS hasn't tested the 3 yet AFAIK.

https://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/ve...oor-sedan/2018

The 3 has the "lowest probability of injury" of any car tested by NHTSA.

Quote:
So basically, when Tesla says its Model 3 has the “lowest probability of injury” ever tested by NHTSA, it means that the overall VSS score (which represents the “relative risk of injury with respect to a baseline of 15 percent”) of 0.38 is lower than that of any car ever tested.

You're right. I must have been looking at the Model S

From the NHTSA: "Frontal crash rating results can only be compared to other vehicles in the same class and whose weight is plus or minus 250 pounds of the vehicle being rated. "

Riddle me this:
If tesla has the best selling, fastest growing most profitable car in the US maybe even the world then why were they trying to barrow money from fly by night Goldman Sachs?
And Goldman Sachs very publicly denied them the loan?
