The model Y is likely to cannibalize demand for the 3, except at the low end.

The 3 is an anomaly, currently (ha), in that it's a sedan with growing sales. Everybody and their insecure dog wants crossovers these days.

It'll be interesting to see what effect the Y has on the 3.

Anyways, Bluetooth is cheap and it's a standard, like the 1/8th inch audio jack. That your new phone doesn't have.
Of course I don't have a new phone :-) I find it much more convenient just to put the audio on a USB device myself.
Either way, that's going from phone to car's stereo, not direct to speakers. Using Bluetooth speakers in a car just seems silly, since you have to run the wires for power anyway.

Still, it's not the sort of car I'd want to drive, especially with that gigantic solar cooker (AKA windshield). And most of my drives would exceed its 100 km range.

In my Astro Van I just use a pair of Bluetooth speakers set up for stereo sound. The Astro has a working audio system but the radio is a stock CD player without an AUX in. Someday I might replace the radio with something aftermarket but the Bluetooth speakers work fine for now.

I want a Subaru Outback as an EV. It is big enough for almost everything I have ever wanted to carry, and when it isn't, I rent a trailer for less than $20/day.

If I was rich, I would try to stuff a Tesla drive train into an Outback, but I am not, so we have a Leaf for many in-town stuff and the Subaru for when we need a second car, longer trips, pull a trailer, etc.

When my latest Subaru is paid off, I plan on replacing my motorcycle with an EV motorcycle. When that is paid off, my Subaru will be replaced with an EV (assuming I have the money for all of this). I hope Subaru has come out with something other than the baby battery CrossTrek (I tried it, but I am too large a person to find it comfortable compared to the Outback).

If the Tesla Model Y is out by then and meets my wants and needs and is something I can afford, then that would be awesome... but I hope in the 5 to 7 years that I will have several options for an all wheel drive passenger vehicle that seats 4 adults comfortably, can tow 3-4,000 lbs easily, has about as much cargo space as an outback, and has about 250-300+ miles of range.

My asks (that I was not able to fill with an EV)

- commute with 2 people comfortably and economically
- can drive a few miles on a gravel road without losing the undercarriage on a pothole
- Pull a boat on a trailer twice a year (4500 lbs)
- room for 5 people ... sort of comfortably ... for short trips (to the hockey rink and back, or out for supper) ... so I need room for a kids hockey bag too

Right now I'm working on other projects.

In about 5 years I hope to restore (function over looks) an F-150 crew cab (or a Chev or a Dodge) with batteries under the bed and under the hood, an AC motor driving the front differential and a DC motor driving the rear.

The parts are easy to source, the drive-line (drive shaft, differentials, hubs, brakes, abs) are the same for many years, available from different sources. Figuring out how to spoof the non-engine electronics *SHOULD* be the biggest challenge ... besides my general lack of mechanical skill

I'd say a Tesla X would fill those requirements... at great expense.

That is possible; but the estimation before the Model 3 came out, is that it would cannibalize sales from the Model S and Model X - and it has not.

Yeah, people willing to spend $90k on a car probably aren't so interested in a car that is half the price. I'm sure some potential S buyers converted to 3, but they may have just wanted a smaller car.

The combined S and X sales were up 3,000 units from the previous year despite the Model 3.

No more 'freeloading' when buying from Feb 1.

If you buy a Tesla you can get a referral code from an existing Tesla owner, which provides for 6 months of free supercharger use (and some bonuses for the supplying owner).
But that program is working a bit too well for Tesla:
https://www.cnbc.com/2019/01/17/elon...-on-feb-1.html

So if you think about buying a Tesla using such a referral code, get it done before February.
