If it was a Model S, that's partly down to the aluminum bodywork.

No body shops will touch my Honda Insight, I'd have to take it to an Audi dealer in my area to get real body work done $$$$$.

I believe the aluminum body trying to absorb the heavy mass means even a low speed collision will spread damage all over the car. Then insurance companies have to fork out maybe 3 months of rental cars to get simple repairs done. I'm just going by the national averages on car insurance by model. All Teslas are well into the high side. If California and Oregon have better deals I can either assume that means everywhere else is really bad, or those states are somehow sweetening the pot to make them not seem as bad.

Impressive Euro NCAP crash test results

I've watched lots of these tests, and I'm used to seeing deformation in the body shown by doors going out of alignment. There's little to none in the Model 3. Pretty neat.

The testing body gave it 5/5 stars overall, including 100% for the frontal offset, plus 97% for active safety systems - the best car it's seen in that category so far:

The Tesla Model 3 made a strong debut with a perfect score in the frontal offset deformable barrier crash test, a mainstay of Euro NCAP’s assessment since its inception in 1997. Its performance in the Safety Assist tests particularly impressed, thanks to its superb driver assistance systems like lane support, speed assist and autonomous emergency braking. The Tesla’s 94 percent score in 2019 Safety Assist tests is the best yet under Euro NCAP’s most recent protocol.

Those walking dummies are possibly one or the funniest things I've seen!

No doubt it's safe, but it sacrifices itself. The problem is it doesn't need to sacrifice itself when backing up slowly and catching the corner of the garage with the back bumper.

That's a fault of modern vehicle design. Nobody makes steel bumpers anymore except perhaps some trucks. Vehicles nowadays have plastic covered styrofoam in front of a steel "bumper". Rip that plastic off and you're looking at a grand.

Me, I'd never pay a grand for plastic, so I'd simply put a couple screws into it, or zip ties... or whatever it takes to look less bad for less money.

Someone backed into the Prius and put a fist sized hole in the plastic exposing the styrofoam underneath. Their insurance cut a check for $1000 and I pocketed it.

I do not remember how much I paid for the bumper cover for my Accord, but I also bought a fender, resonator, and headlight, for a total of $200.

New or used? OEM or aftermarket?

You haven't accounted for labor and paint.
