True. I have a good running total on this. Somebody hit the civic and did $60 worth of damage. They said it was $2400, wrote a check for $1800, sold me the car back for $200. So basically $1600 for a crack in a bumper lol.
Prius accident 1: Guy pulled the bumper off. $2550 dollars. I fixed it with some zip ties, a washer on the oem bolt, and I had to cut some of the wheel liners out and under tray.
doesn't look too bad now either.

Before the tire blew and I needed to replace the parts I had put a fender bolt on the fender to keep it in place.

Apparently my brother-in-law hit something and used wire to keep it more-or-less in place.

I've got wire holding my undertray in place on the Prius. It's a low ground clearance vehicle, and the first thing to scrape is the plastic mounts that hold the undertray in place.

It does surprise me that we live in a society where to most people, it's worth a couple grand to not be seen as a person who owns something with a scratch in it.

The M.O. of a former auto insurance adjuster I worked with was to replace every car he owned with a cosmetic total loss. He probably put over a million miles on $2000 worth of cars over the years.

Thats my guy right there! Forget the anxiety of driving a nice car and worrying about people hitting you or door dinging you.

Replacing the bumper cover might actually have been faster.

I once watched a video where they used zip ties to pull a bumper cover together, covered it with Bondo, painted it, and you could not tell that anything happened.

However, for how long would that last?
