I vaguely recall some forklifts having flatheads but it has been a series of shiney object SQUIRREL days lately.

It might've been really old ones. Presumably the oldest ones I saw in recent years were fitted with Chevrolet 153 and Stovebolt Six engines.

It's been a long time I haven't seen any brand-new small flathead engine for similar appliances, but anyway, since many of those cheaper Chinese ones still rely on splash lube I guess the flathead layout could be less troublesome.

AFAIK this is the last International Harvester KB-1 in my hometown, yet its Blue Diamond flathead-six was presumably replaced with some engine fitted to local variants of the Ford F-Series. At least the engines fitted to the Brazilian Ford F-1000 didn't need a timing chain as the Blue Diamond did...

The Feed & Seed company I worked for when I was in high school had an I-H truck with that cab and a 12ft box van. It's name was Old Blue.

I don't remember the engine, but it had a two-speed axle with a red mushroom push-pull switch on the floorshift lever.

At that time they were all straight-6 anyway, though some bigger models resorted to Continental engines.

I was looking at some pictures I took in November 2018 and found those:

AFAIK this one didn't have an actual drivetrain...

But this one had what is presumably the last flathead Mercedes-Benz engine
