You only have to be afraid if you have something to hide.

What's that supposed to mean? What line?
If you are a law abiding citizen, more surveillance will not affect you.

THATS the line

You are a law abiding citizen untill a law is set that you knowingly or unknowingly break.
I would say 97% of Americans break a law each day. I dont want to hear about an obvious difference bettween speeding and murder 1.
If it is law to not surpass 35 mph NHTSA should make car incapable of surpassing that national speed while the cars are at the dealership.
How will you do when simple luxeries like bacon and coffee are deemed illeagal. Not so long back booze was illeagal and marijuana was not.
If you dont agree with a law do your civic duty to have it changed.
Wake up! stop complaining and being complacent and dont break the law daily. Thus said I am a sinner and law breaker. I thank God for he forgives my miss deeds.
I dont expect anyone looking for an arguement to understand.

Mother Nature aside, "laws" are made by humans having personal and petty agenda's, so-o-o-o, one moment you MIGHT be classified as "law-abiding" and the next as an "outlaw" simply because of somebody ELSE's "law"...such as traveling through a different neighborhood, city, voting district, county or state.

Surveillance can be shown to be factually inaccurate, as is shown by numerous localities rejecting automated ticketing based on speeding camera and stop-light camera.

Besides that, the authorities will be looking for "red flag" behavior, which is not in and of itself illegal behavior, but can be used to predict the likelihood of illegal behavior being committed. Say, for instance, that somebody continually stops by a certain bar on his way home from work and stays there for about 45 minutes before continuing on to his residence. Say also that this activity is flagged by the surveillance system that nobody needs to fear if they only abide by the law.

It won't matter to that one individual, because the system picked up his continual stopping at this bar, and red-flagged to the authorities that this individual MIGHT be somebody who drinks and drives. Now, when this individual drives around, he'll be under enhanced scrutiny from the surveillance system, that no law-abiding citizen needs to fear. This individual might even have difficulty getting insurance, getting his driver's license renewed, or getting his vehicle registration renewed - all because of the surveillance system that no law-abiding citizen need fear.

It would not matter what the reason why this individual stops there. Maybe, just maybe, that individual never actually drinks alcohol at this bar because he knows better than to drink and drive. Maybe this individual's spouse works there, and they'd just like to have a nice chat about their day. Maybe the bar also sells a really delicious hamburger that the individual loves. It doesn't matter, because now this surveillance system just flagged this individual as a possible drunk driver.

So much for not having anything to fear.

great scenario t_ vago.
To add to this possible scenario...one day a big drug dealer moves into town and starts visiting the same bar. Bam! you are now automatically part of a major drug surveillance too. You just got caught in the same net and associated through the data collection. You still did nothing wrong, but, only in your mind and no one cares what you think or how innocent you claim to be.
This is scary!

Let's take the man at his word and not assume anything other than what he actually expressed in his words.

That is a commonly voiced public opinion that every authoritarian and virtually every politician would engender and endorse.

The result? More power for us over you, less power for you over us.

To make it even all the more galling, those in power will say "we're doing this to help and protect you from the bad guys"...
