I tweaked the cam timing today, moving the cam chain one tooth on the sprocket. it puts the valve timing almost exactly the same amount advanced as it was retarded. I put it back together and fired it up. there was an immediate improvement. the bike had been having a very difficult time with cold starts. this time with the enrichment circuit on it fired right up and idled evenly. warmed up to operating temp and closed the starting circuit. idled smoothly, and revved evenly. as a side note, the exhaust note was deeper, and sounds much better now.

On the subject of side wind stability, I have been considering building a shorty muffler for the bike which would sit directly under the center of the engine. in line with the wheels. this would increase the side surface area down low while reducing weight, and not increasing FA. it would have two outlets pointed slightly to each side to avoid heating up the rear wheel. I am hoping to make it flat sided, to allow the attachment of thermoelectric generators to help reduce the electric load.

Another question. This one with regard to wheel bearings. I will be removing cleaning, and re lubricating my bearings, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for what lube will give me the least friction, and last longest.

A few photos of test fitting the fairing on the bike.

Great idea if you have lots of money or an inexpensive source for the TEG's. It's been a couple years since I checked into them but at the time quality generators were prohibitively expensive. What would you do to keep the cool side cool to maintain the temperature differential?
I assume you have already checked into sources but here is one that I'll toss out.
Hi-Z Technology, Inc.
I have no affiliation with this company--haven't even bought anything from them but ran across their site when I was researching TEG's a few years ago.

Not in this configuration. For shipping it would need to break down into at least three pieces. a nose and two doors. I will probably have a separate chin scoop/belly pan also. it weighs only 22 lbs as is, but as yet has no internals.I'll be shooting for under 40 including the ribs, storage pockets, and dashboard. Last year's fairing weighed about 25 lbs, but didn't have the doors.

I did some number crunching today, and found that the fairing is almost small enough to ship UPS. minus the full sides, it will ship without issue. with the sides removed, and nested inside the fairing it will still ship. if I get creative, I might even get a fairing, and a boattail trunk into one box. according to the UPS website, the shipping charge will remain the same for up to 150lbs, so I can include the headlight, windshield, mirrors, and such without shipping penalty so long as they fit inside the box. shipping charge to California is estimated at about $250 which I would consider not too bad for a complete fairing setup.
