Tough little generator build

I got a $10 single phase alternator, 2 pole, 120v, 29amp, 3.5kw, floating neutral, taper shaft about 100hrs on it. Came from a yanmar 320cc diesel generator. The diesel engine is toast.
Should take about a 6hp engine to crank out that much power. Ebay sells really cheap taper shaft engines.
I think I found a 10hp Tecumseh that should fit.
Why would I put a 10hp engine on a 6hp generator?
For motor starting. And if it doesn't fit I'll make it fit.
I found that electric air compressors, welding machines, pumps and generators are natural enemies.
Now putting a 10hp motor on a 3.5kw generator could melt the generator so I'll have to give it a breaker or fuse.
Ecomods, I'll make it variable speed so I can run it at say 30, 50 and 60hz.

You can't carry the speed of a single phase motor below about 40hz. Any slower than about 45hz and the single phase start system may not come up to speed and disengage. Then the motor burns up.
Running at reduced speed most plug in hand tools with DC motors still work fine, just at reduced speeds. Most chargers still work too.

It's not as bad now. I have made my air compressors and welders a little more efficient and done things to the air compressors to reduce startup amps.

I found one, well most of one of the yanmar 320cc engines with less than 300 hours on it. The cylinder bore is in excellent condition.
The yanmars are built like brick shtthouses, they use a copper head gasket with firering, which is pretty cool.
I think I'll make 2 generators. 1 gasoline powered and 1 diesel. There's a honda gx270 engine on ebay for about $500, I won't have to make anything fit.

I have successfully reserected a diesel generator.
The diesel engine was parts from 3 to 5 other broken yanmars, engine 1 a new or low hours short block with no head I think some one stole the cylinder head off that engine to replace another one but the injector, line and pump along with other small parts gone too, 2 a fuel system from one that ran without oil and self detonated, 3 a head off one that seized, small parts off 2 other ones getting junked. Still don't have a muffler but I'm not worried about it, a new one off eBay is like $70 to $90 so I'll probably make one out of junk.
