I wonder how extensive changes can be post-crash testing before the law requires additional crash testing? What is typically the time between crash testing a vehicle and production?

While product cycles can be as little as 36-months for a body-in-white to production,the convention has been a 48-month cycle.I suspect that the applicable NHTSA safety regulations for model years 48-months out,are already frozen,giving automakers ample time for engineering and verification.With finite element analysis,computers have been able to crash-test vehicles within a virtual domain since 1990.The actual crash testing is basically a confirmation of the numerical modelling.Bill Gates knows all about this.

Basically none. Look up what Subaru had to do to get their STI certified.

Look at the clown in the thumbnail. Hands in the air and his mouth open. What else would you expect. But you should see the huge, clean and well lighted workspace they are in.
  • 1/2 scale 6=>2 passengers
  • he won't be wearing his cowboy hat in it
I posted it to show the direction of public sentiment. Have you seen the Youtube 'influencers' asserting they've already bought one?

I thought that all one could do ,is put down the $100 deposit,and wait until 2021.

I bet none of them are honest enough to say 'I bought a Cybertruck so I can make this video, which will pay for the Cybertruck'.

crash safety

This is kinda weird:
In the January 2020 Motor Trend article on the new C-8 Corvette they write,'...neither IIHS nor NHTSA have crash-tested it (and they likely never will)...'

Good evening guys.
I have tested the Cybertruck in Falcon ( " Flow Design CFD ") and keep getting repeatable results on something.
When tested with an open bed, the Cd count is only one count higher.
I have run three or four runs using the exact same variables.
Each run is giving the exact same Cd.
.41 for the closed bed, and .42 for the open bed.

This program / app - whatever it is, is not very accurate, but I feel more confident posting this since it is repeatable.
