Lets empathise. You work for a state owned car maker in the late 1970s. You make this :

which sells as well as you might expect even though not all are painted in this fetching shade of "Terd Sunset". Your thrusting head designer comes up with this :

Hmm - ok, a bit designer licence - lets do more studies - now

OK - now we are cooking - the project is looking good. So you go off and fight some unions, some government morons and get everything in place. You go back to that killer product and.

Er

How the hell did this come out ?

OK - well, its spacious, and er, has lots of space, and feels really large and airy inside. The boot is pretty big too - bigger than a Golf, honest.

At least the designers didn't think it would be a good idea to fit it with a talking dash.

Oh No....

Anything Honda and anything Toyota...regardless of the year.
Although, most 90's Korean cars were pretty bad too...

I find the 2nd gen CRX, and s2000 to be good looking cars, also the lude in some years did not look bad. The 2nd gen MR2 and supura are alright.

The 2nd-gen CRX is one of the coolest-looking cars from the 90s, too bad it didn't have a RWD layout to make it funnier.

The Si I had [not a day goes by I don't regret selling it(oh I'm so depressed now)] was so neutral (the previous owner did some light mods to the suspension and set it up very well. RWD would have made for fun power over steer but as it was just a bit of lift off could get a wonderful bit of slip out of the rear.

There is a saying - "in the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king." Similarly when it comes to the Austin Allegro a similar saying would be "in the land of the hatchback, the small, odd shaped saloon is a loser ."

This is what it was meant to look like
