car camping

I converted the Mirage to a micro-RV:

OK, more like a hard-shelled tent.

First time I've tried this. Surprisingly comfortable!

Nice! How much room from front to rear do you have?

I sleep in the Insight sometimes on longer trips but don't have much room since the front seats don't fold down (yet). But if I stick my legs out over the center console it works. IMA delete gives an adequate amount of headroom. But ofc nothing spectacular.

Filling seams between never moving panels

Today I filled a few front seams with a caulking product that can easily be removed if required.

"Zip Seal'N Peel" is the product here in Canada. There is probably an equivalent product were you are.

The maker describes the product:
- Transparent, removable sealant for interior and exterior use around windows, patio doors, air conditioners and other places where drafts can occur.

FEATURES:

Environmentally friendly adhesive
Interior and exterior

Masking tape no longer needed to block the seams and improve aerodynamics a bit more.

"Hard Shell Tent" is a cool phrase. Those drapes or nets on the open doors... they good as mosquito proofing? Secured to the interior somehow?

I pulled out into traffic tonight on the way home and had to buzz my 240,000 mile engine a little past redline. Someone came out of the fast lane to pass the car in front just as I pulled out. No contact was made but I have never seen that move there in the last fifteen years of this exact commute. This car will be more fun to drive with 80 more hp and a fresh engine. Still unsure about the F40 six speed, I don’t want custom axles. If I can make the Saab axles work in the Saturn then I will make the switch. I have a 80,000 mile F35 with a 4.05 final to go behind the LSJ if I stay with the 5 speed. The car has an L61 2.2L and a 4.45 final F35 now.

Hey! I am glad you got out of that safely.

I can understand avoiding custom axles. I hope the Saab ones work out!

Mosquito netting, yup! Definitely required. Either that or windows must be up, which would be gross when it's warm/humid.

The netting is long enough to tuck under all the cushions/blankets and make an enclosure with an overlapping slit on one side that I twist together and clothes-pin shut.

Yesterday finally decided to cut the hose to remove the PS reservoir. Question: how bad would it be to just re-use the hose I basically shortened by 1"? It is part of a "cooling" hose that, all section included must be 2-3 feet long.
