Car: 2005 Ford Explorer, 4wd, 4.0 Engine.
Oil: Pennzoil Conv. 5w30, FRAM Ultra Synthetic Filter (About as good as an Amsoil filter, which is to say, nearly the best I can get.)
Tires: 45 PSI
Mods: EOCing, and 4 oz Opti-Lube XL (Diesel Fuel Additive) in Gas Tank (if that even helps.)
Instrumentation: Stock Computer.

I had a 12.1 mile trip (one way, not both ways) and the MPG figure was about 32 MPG. One 4.3 mile stretch (roughly) was nothing but EOCing.

A small achievement, I suppose (since 4.3 miles of this was more or less "downhill," and this was only one way.) I haven't even removed the roof rack yet.

Any day with a run like that in a 4wd Bronco is a success.

Economy Saturn - '02 Saturn L200

Worked on my B207R/F40 swap for my Saturn L. I figured out the engine mounts, combination Saab/Saturn parts. I am going to run Saturn engine controls. I have to change the crank trigger wheel on the crank from a 58 tooth to a 6+1. These engines are popular in circle track racing and a shop back East makes a trigger wheel to adapt the later GM Ecotec engines to run the early computers. This conversion will increase hp from 130 to 210. Car will still get 30mpg but will need some octane to reach full hp potential.

brr

I put the heater on in the MPGiata for the first time last evening -- already had the kayak on the car, so couldn't put the roof up. The nights are getting cool now!

There is a drivetrain for a 2016 1.2 5spd mirage on facebook marketplace for 475. What would possibly be better? The metro (1.3 5spd) drivetrain I have now or the mirage's drivetrain? I'm assuming it's not going to sell very quickly so maybe I can pick it up in a few weeks. The mirage's drivetrain might be a lot harder to swap in, but maybe worth it?

(to swap into my mercury, despite the rust I haven't given up on it)

Mirage will be more efficient and maybe more powerful as well. It has multiport injection and variable valve timing. If it's 2017 or newer, it also has cam rollers.

There's a guy who installed a Mirage drivetrain into a quad/ATV/dirt buggy...

Thread: Not your typical G4 owner (3A92 engine & 5-speed swap into dunebuggy)

He used Megasquirt to run it, so that probably means no variable valve control, right?

I believe megasquirt offers an "expansion" pack type of accessory that allows control of vvt. I didn't buy that though as the metro doesnt have it, but I think that's all it would take to be able to control it.

I had another good trip in the Explorer, going home.

32 Miles, according to the computer, but Google Maps says it's 33.8 miles.

Google Maps Figures:

3.5 miles were City driving.
25.9 Miles were Highway driving.
4.4 miles were from the highway to home.

25.8 MPG (again, according to the computer.)

Much of this was on the Highway, with a fair bit of EOCing. Speeds ranging from high 40s, to 62 MPH. Most of it was 51 - 56 MPH.

The car's still not modified much.
