Huh? Why dig deeper when the BS is out there in the open?
The net operators themselves have pointed out gas, nuclear and oil-plant failures as the main cause of the blackouts. They should know, right?
Quote:
In Texas, wind power generation overtook coal-fired generation in 2020 for the first time ever, with wind power now accounting for 25 percent of the Texas electricity generation. Natural gas-fired power generation is the leading source of electricity in Texas, with more than 45 percent share.

While oil-and-gas rich Texas is the leading U.S. state for wind power installations, the frozen turbines in the Arctic weather have strained the grid so much that rolling outages in Texas continue for a second consecutive day.
The 50% capacity loss (26 GW) by frozen natural gas plants about equals the total output of Texan wind turbines (most of which kept working).

The outages were caused by the natural gas plants. If those have kept working there would not have been an outage at all.

Wind lost only 4 GW. If none of that had dropped out it would hardly have made a difference. The shortage caused by the failing gas plants was too big to fill with other means.
If however there had been 3 times as many wind turbines and no natural gas plants at all, then there would not have been an outage at all. There might be in other conditions, but not this time.

Blaming wind turbines for the outage is completely unfair, a deliberate misrepresentation of the causes.
Zero Hedge is as trustworthy as the Onion. The latter is funnier though.

This is an area where I wouldn't trust Wikipedia either. Being banned by Facebook and Twitter sounds like a badge of honor. Or at least a participation trophy.

For conservative reporting, there're 30 sources monitored at a news aggregator https://newsammo.com/, AON to Zero Hedge.

edit:
This morning Scott Adams discussed how to spot fake news.

Not to platform the sources, but DDG is one remove. duckduckgo.com/?q=doe+202-21-01+texas

Governor Abbot was negligent in not over-riding Federal restrictions on the gas plants. By the time they tried to turned them on they had gone off-grid themselves.

Aha.
But as I read the order the plants were allowed to exceed pollution standards for the duration of the cold spell? What held them back then?

And it was only part of their problems of course. The gas pumps that froze could likely have been kept warm in some way without exceeding emissions standards.

The price of gas generated electricity went up to $9 per kWh during the crisis. Gas plants made millions while people died.

But at least the blame shifted from the wind turbines to the refusal to lift pollution standards on gas plants. Progress.

The question is: did the power plant managers do everything they could to avert the crisis? Or did they use the regulations as an excuse to cause a big blackout?
Are they heroes or criminals, or something in between?

You are educated about winter conditions and precautions therefore. Texans have no collective memory of sub 30 degree so they have no planning for that; which is what caused this mess. Shave a bunch of thou $$ off a turbine to delete anti ice? Heck yeah.

The Brits in Scotland were whingeing about the switch points freezing on the railroads. That is a way of life in Chicago.

Well, we're all somewhere in between. Criminal negligence?

No-one living has collective memory of the Younger Dryas.

Civilization came damn close to the Younger Dryas... just 200 years in between!
The margin of error may be bigger than that, who knows.

There is a series on Suspicious 0bservers about recurring cataclysms

12,000 Year Cycle

In Part 1 he talks about DDG/?q=heinrich+events

Quote:
Heinrich Events | Encyclopedia.com
https://www.encyclopedia.com/earth-a...einrich-events
Heinrich events are episodes during which large numbers of icebergs are released by glaciers into the North Atlantic. More than half a dozen Heinrich events occurred during the last ice age, every 10,000 years or so from 135,000 to 12,000 years ago.
Humankind has survived a half-dozen similar events.
