I presume they need to very vey plan what areas will have independent conncetion, in relation the the angle to the sun, in orther to minimize the risk.
The solar racers I've seen all had what they called a solid state solar tracker. Series/parallel panel array segments were wired in to the solid state device, which during partial shading, directed the 'live' segments through the power converter to the motor, while isolating the 'dead' areas so as not to create an open-circuit condition which would otherwise occur if any series elements were to go into shade, knocking out the whole array.

Thank you Aerohead. You guys always have a answer. :-)

This "solid state solar tracker"... Is it a series of different connection that you switch in different ways ?

I imagine a solition before, but not like a elaborated device, but like 2 ou 3 line connections, in different ways, and you would switch to the best for a given angle of the sun in relkation to the car. The difficult would be to keep the same voltage for panels.

I wondered if a device with a compass and GSP could calculate the sun position, car position, car angle (body lenght) in relation to the sun, and computate the beast adjust for better power perfomance of the solar panel system. The level, car angle inglination in case of climb or go down a hill could also be a factor to calculate.

In the case of SOlar WOrld No* 1 this management of solar cells connections would be very important, since this specific solar car it's quite far from have a flat surface:

Unfortunately,I have no direct experience with the tracker technology.
I attended one of the races leading up the World Solar Challenge, hosted at Weatherford College,Weatherford,Texas, years ago,and the teams described the system, but not specifically.
In order for the system to work, the array would have to be divided into 'sides','centerline',and 'fore and aft' in order to segregate out 'dead' elements of the array. At least six separate inputs I would guess.

I found this about Honda Dream solar car.

Interesting, it was a solar car for two persons :

But I couldn't open the PDF

B and C have the lowest drag, but I like A for the useable interior volume, and the ME-262 shark profile. You could get there with an un-rotated superellipse.

Look that, as spot solar car, or at least looking like one :

I suspect that the Cruiser Class is like car racing's "Prototype Class" in that they both seek to race cars that the public can identify with as possibly exotic street cars.

These classes cannot compete with the more thoroughbred or unlimited classes on their own but at least look like cars that we can all relate to.

Looks like a star cruiser - beautiful.

Nice. It looks to have more interior volume, with side-by-side seating instead of back-to-back tandem.

It's late night, and I found this a couple minutes ago, and will still watch :

Will Aptera reborn???

With Braga's battery I just imagine how far would Aptera go.

Going to sleep. Later I check the vides and make comments...

I don't like the stance. I get the lessened interference drag, but it has a high center of gravity.

If you drop the nose the shape is wrong. It would have to be level.
