Hummer EV

FYI

The Hummer EV(sold by GMC) will start manufacture production fall 2021. Hummer is a shell in that most of plant manufacture assets (2008)sold to China CCP. The GM Shreveport, LA Hummer plant closed back after 2008 downturn and never reopen for any purpose currently. The CCP makes knock-off Hummers for the PLA.

GMC has China plant manufacture with limited USA domestic (GM rebrand) Hummer and Encore for sure made in China.

Lol did anybody see it has the capability for 350kW @ 800V charging?

For reference most* houses have a 120A service or 14.4kW service panel.

Hummer's sale to a Chinese company fell through in 2010 and GM shut the brand down. GM does have a lot of factories in China. That makes sense as China is the largest auto market in the world and GM's largest market. Yes, they make the Encore in China (and Korea)

What does any of that have to do with this GMC Hummer EV that will be made in Detroit, MI - USA?

Most home chargers are 240V @ 32 amps for ~ 7 kW. That is more than adequate for slow charging overnight which is how 90% of EV charging happens.

The DC fast charging rates are mostly spec racing.

Tesla are 100 days into building the Austin Gigafactory. Site prep is pretty much done and the casting facility is being fabricated. I believe that's where the CyberTruck be rolling off the line by then.

The Shreveport GM plant is a crime scene. Fraud. Elio.

More or less meant that its impressive it has the ability to charge at that.
Sounds like GM is gonna have some big boy charging stations coming out in a year or two.

The Hummer has two 400v battery packs in parallel. During DC Fast Charge, it can switch it to a series connected pack at 800v and utilize EA's 800v fast charging capability.

Most EVs operate at 400v only (or less) and are incapable of achieving the 350 kW available from the EA chargers.

It's going to need that fast charging capability because it's a pig. I had calculated the efficiency at 1.6 miles per kWh compared to a typical 3.6 or so of typical EVs.

Electrify America already has 350 KW / 800v charging stations that the Hummer can use. They seem to be the go-to choice for other manufacturers to partner with. I don't expect to see any automaker build out their own charging network.

Audi, Fisker, Ford, Harley Davidson, Hyundai, Kia, Lucid, Porsche, VW

I found it interesting that Hummer natively runs on 400v, but can configure the pack for 800v to charge. It seems this is done to maintain compatibility with chargers that can't do 800v.

I wonder if there could be an advantage building a native 800v EV and allowing it to convert to 400v for charging at the lower power chargers? 800v allows thinner conductors to be used, but I don't know what engineering challenges the higher voltage would introduce.
