Finally broke the 44mpg mark. I was also on pace to break 400 miles on the tank but I didn't want to refuel en route tomorrow so I did it tonight.

My over all fuel usage is still dropping! I guess I'm doing my part to make sure that there is a surplus of gasoline even with lower prices.
My numbers of gallons of gas used just in the month of February in past years:
2006 40.323 gallons
2007 30.674 gallons
2008 18,526 gallons
2009 7.752 gallons

I am pleased with this trend, even more so because it's because of better planing of my whole life, so even if I don't continue to lower my fuel usage even more then I have already I am down to a number that I think I can live with for a while, but in a few months I hope to have my commuti-car on the road and by next fall I hope to have my citi-car on the road as well and to be able to use that as a winter car, but as it is I've reduced gas by living closer to where I spend my time, walking more and in the past few days ridding my bike more, even with the slush and puddles that cover the whole road.

Those are some really impressive drops in gas usage Ryland, wow! I'm going to have to count up my monthly usage now... It looks like the Matrix used just north of 75 gallons of gas in January alone... Yikes.

Ryland, I second the Daox' congratulations

My last record seams weak aside your's :
* Fuel economy - last 3 fills: 53.89 mpg (US)
* Distance: 803 mi. (1292.1 km), previous 760.8 mi.
* MPG: 55.04 US (4.275 l/100), previous 53.69 US
* Saving: 36.2%, ie EPA +56.7%

First time in the 800 miles club and first time in the 55 mpg club

I have to confess I drove an alternate road, 10 km longer, to achieve 800 mi

Denis.

1272 miles on one tank of ULSD in MKIV Golf TDI.
HARD work to get that Milage though, I bet I could get another 100 Miles with that much effort if I knew then what I know now.

I can't speak long term yet but 41.5 mpg was my best official summer mileage since I have been keeping records. That was pre bellypan in my EXP, this summer it should be even better.

After an update of our statistics, my family saving since June 2008 are:
  • 31.6 gallons from miles not driven (mainly work from home)
  • 73.2 gallons from ecodriving
ie the car avoiding corresponds to 30% of the saving

Denis.

Hi,

My mileage on the current tank (so far) is equal to my best -- 47.5mpg, that I got last summer. It's March.

Tomorrow is going to be a bit warmer, and I'm going to try to beat it by enough to get the average for the whole tank as close to 50mpg, or at least set a new personal best.

[Edit: Things are lookin' great -- after my morning commute, the tank average is sitting at 47.9mpg! That' a half tank = 265 miles.]

I finally beat my tank record - in mileage and distance and time.

66.75 mpg / 801 miles / 6 weeks. My record is no longer the evil 66.6 from a year ago.

woot woot, PaleMelanesian didn't beat my longest tank : 803 mi.
Pale, "2 miles is worth pushing it around the block one more time, no?"

My last tank (the 4th P&G tank) beat my best tank by 3.1% and my first P&G tank by 7.3% : 56.78 mpg = EPA + 61.73%
Your 66.6 mpg is now my summer goal

The car changed a lot with the rear wheel skirts and the hotter temps : the turbo activates more easily and my old habits (fast accelerations) are back . By modifying more my driving (trying to avoid turbo activation and coming back to my max speed before the skirts) I should do even better

My 90 days (53.93 mpg) passed Daox's Paseo (52.84 mpg) and I'm closed to Johnny Mullet's Christine (54.16 mpg) and SVOboy's Vegan Powa! (56.5 mpg). Lately MetroMPG's Blackfly (61.89 mpg) flied away and is catching up with PaleMelanesian's PaleCivic (63.26 mpg), basjoos's Aerocivic (63.89 mpg) and jwxr7's the metro experience (64.13 mpg).

I have only to improve my best tank by 12.5% to beat you all in a friendly way of course. If the summer times makes you run away too fast to permit me to catch you, at least I'll emit less CO2 than a Prius II as soon as I have improved by 6%.

Denis.
