That's an idea. At work we build retractable loading spouts with cones that have to collapse similar to that without jamming. Calculations are pretty easy.

Not sure about the engine heat, but I would have at least the same open area for exit air as you do for inlet air.

People usually say to get an accurate reading, you gotta use the same pump at the same station all the time. I think it is because there is a huge difference in pumping speeds between stations.
